The STO's website says "2020" for the full implementation of their downtown Ottawa service changes.
OK so on Radio-Canada this morning they said that STO would be switching over in about six months. So that looks like the spring - when I believe they do usually have a minor service change. This one will be major though.

Nope. Not really needed either. What we do need is for Multi and Presto to be able to deduct money from each other's cards. The limitation of having interoperability only for monthly passes and transfers severely limits interprovincial mobility for occasional transit riders.

When you consider that Gatineau doesn't have Uber either, it makes the interprovincial border a pretty huge travel barrier for the carfree.

A little secret: about 98% of OC Transpo drivers will simply wave you through if your STO pass (whatever it is) buzzes as invalid when you swipe it. There are sometimes glitches in the communication between the two systems, and so it's just too much of a hassle and delays everyone for nothing to ask people to pay or get off in such cases.

They still have Uber in Gatineau, it's just more complicated to get a ride given the restrictions. A driver will be able to pick you up in Gatineau and drop you in Ottawa, but will have to drive back to Gatineau to get another ride.

Yes, that is why you need the numbers. That is why they need to be prominent, visible, and consistently easy to find quickly and on the fly.

For example, if you want to catch the 94 westbound to downtown/Riverview from Orleans (Innes/Provence), you'd type in "0571 94 1". If you're at Rideau station, just type in "Rideau 94 2". There's absolutely no reason to ever seek out a 4 digit stop number at any station.
There is, because OC Transpo's data file that they provide to developers is utter crap and has bad mapping between station/stop numbers and their names.

There is no reason, other than its ongoing contempt for riders, for OC Transpo to not have followed through on its promise, half a decade ago, to improve its point-of-waiting signage and information.

The changes to the bus network under Manconi have taken us further away from a grid pattern of bus transit, not closer to it.

That's all well and good for buses, but it could be s serious issue with fare gates. The first little while with OC Transpo customer serve reps will be fine: they can scan riders in, but once those reps are gone, who will let Gatineau riders on?

Hey All,

I went for a run last night, down Queen Street, across Lebreton to Bayview Station.

The entire experience was amazing, what a beautiful finish on Queen Street, it looks like we live in a big city! Lyon Station east entrance is huge. Bayview seems crazy over-designed, but for the future at least it won't have to be upgraded. The thing is cavernous, and the biggest exit is towards Bayview snow-dump (soon to be an innovation village with Invest Ottawa as a hub).

I don't understand why the O-train exits to the west? Is this ease of escalator function? I suppose it'll make more sense once the confederation entrance to the station is open? Now, almost 100% of the riders have to loop around the end of the track on the bike path to access...anything at all.

I do not disagree.

I should mention that as of last Saturday and for the first time, RedBlack tickets were scannable to open the fare gates. At least, that was the case at Greenboro.

You should have seen it before they opened the new station. The transfer to a downtown bus at Bayview was so convoluted, it was a ten minute walk and that was with walking up a steep embankment to save time to reach the bus stop on Scott/Albert.

The key to the success of the Confederation Line is not only the proper functioning of the trains, but effective bus routes feeding it. There also needs to be proper cross town bus routes that don't require multiple transfers to get to your destination.

Anyone know how close the tunnel is to the Desmarais parking garage? I've noticed recently I can hear the trains going by when I'm in the bike cage on the bottom level. It's a quiet rumble in the distance.

It's precisely under the Transitway.

Yep, right under Waller Street, so it is next to the Desmarais underground garage as the train descends to the depths of Rideau Station.

You think Bayview is over-designed? I think it's way under-designed. It should have been centre platforms on both upper and lower levels with a simple and central vertical circulation link between the two, and maybe a widened roadway bridge that integrated the entrances on either side of Scott. For a station that was built on open field there was tons of room to do anything here. I think they cheaped out in the beginning to use existing infrastructure which did not work out anyway.

?? I'm not following this.

There's been very little change to the bus network (other than LRT detours) since the 2011 changes, which pre-date Manconi.

The Frequent route network is pretty close to a grid network. It could use some enhancements (bumping up to 10-minute frequency from 15, longer hours, etc.) but it's a good start.

Line 2 exits to the west so that it is inside the fare paid zone. If it exited to the east like before, the Trillium pathway would be blocked by a fare paid zone.

As it is now, it's pretty easy to exit Bayview from the lower level and head west. Heading east will be easier once the escalator is opened and the upper level entrance to Albert St. can be used.
