They plan on starting with 2 planes. So far so good.
Thereafter they plan on having 10-12 by summer 2020.

Guess they haven’t learnt much about why WOW failed in the first place.

Will people book on an airline that already went under again?

I mean, it's good for people flying to Europe on the cheap (read: some other investor's money), but I'm not too sure if there's a ton of margin in the game.

A number of airlines have started Iceland service now too. That wasn't the case when WOW debuted.

Someone once said that if you wanted a small fortune in the airline industry, you should start an airline using a large fortune.

AKAIK, I think Icelandair is losing money too.

If the one domestic carrier is struggling to make it work, I can't see the addition of another helping.

Speaking of which, seems like AC is converting KEF to Rouge permanently.

Latest changes for S20:

YUL-NCE convert to 5x weekly mainline A333

YUL-BOD convert to Rouge B763
YYZ/YUL-KEF convert to Rouge A319

The mainline flights out of YUL are still in the schedule, but YYZ-KEF flight number is now replaced by YUL-NCE.

A few pics of the airport from our trip to Ireland and Scotland.

St. John's public area...

After security, if you turn around when going up to the departures area, you'll see my fave abstract of St. John's.

It's just perfect.

Through security to Yellowbelly Public House...

I assume it's because that certain type of plane is still not being used, but they've taken to flying us to mainland Canada on these noisy tin cans. You even have to walk outside to get on them.

Then, on the way back, landing at Halifax. You can see the city in the distance.

It was a big shock to be back in a "smoking/vaping" area after Europe. Dublin has ashtrays on either side of every entrance.

The name of this store cracked us up. Why not just go full SEO optimization and choose something "Island Beach Sea Lake of Nova Scotia Boutique Shore Shop".

Flying back to St. John's.

This was near the edge of Nova Scotia. Not sure what it is - but the most built-up area of the province we actually fly over on our flight path...

Back over Mount Pearl, ALMOST home!

I was on the wrong side of the plane to see the city proper, but here's Kilbride. Coming from the mainland, planes always have to fly past the city, do a full turn above Cape Spear, and then come back in to land. It's always fun, and scenic.

Looks like you were over Cape Breton, and most likely over New Waterford going North East more or less.

You can see the point with the windmills on it in your photo, next to the Lingan Generating Station. And you can see a track oriented in the right direction in the bottom part of your pic as well.

Glace Bay would be near the top of your picture, on the other side of the bite from the generating station.

Sydney Airport is the one you can see at the top right as well. Were you on the other side of the plane you would've seen Sydney itself I'm sure.

Probably.

Air Canada has a special agreement with GTAA for fixed landing fees since 2014 with expectations of passenger growth. So, at YOW both LH and AC pay the same fees (AFAIK) but at YYZ AC has lower rates than LH.

Route swaps will likely continue until AC operates all practical routes out of YYZ to improve profit to their Joint Ventures.

WestJet has a similar deal with YYZ (started 2016) and a recent trans-border Joint Venture with Delta; so I expect Delta crews will be replaced by WestJet crews in the near future.

Never thought I'd see the day that LH would come to YOW. It's completely unclear as to whether this is in addition to AC or replacing AC. AC's seasonal flight is supposed to return 14MAY20 with a departure at 2135. This 1750 departure time on LH would actually perfectly complement that and would actually allow for a lot more pax to connect at YOW.

Seems to indicate AC's sticking around, but I'm skeptical. 5/6 mainline 763s are staying for 2020. However, Lord knows YOW could easily absorb the additional capacity to Europe.

If it is in fact replacing AC, then YOW-FRA's net capacity will actually drop by 5.9% next year.

This will be the first European carrier at YOW since Thomas Cook/Canadian Affair over a decade ago and first Euro flag carrier since KL left in 1996. It's also YOW's 4th ever European airline with scheduled or charter service with the other being Bulgaria's short-lived Jes Air on A310s flying YOW-JFK-SOF for a couple of years in the early 90s.
