On one hand, this is great for Hollywood North and the general economy... on the other, the last thing we need is another giant industrial park in the middle of nowhere creating traffic.

It's not really in the middle of nowhere. Carvolth Exchange isn't that far away and housing has been built between 208th and 212th St while the image shows a business park and then the studios between 212th and 216th St. Plus they're currently building a highway overpass on 216th. It's only the 'last mile' of transit that needs to be dealt with.

It's not an overpass at 216th it's a full interchange.

Also this film studio shows how not all business activities are suitable for dense urban tower settings.

Film production is more industrial than it is commercial and it requires such “office park” facilities. Not to mention close access to highways for all of the film trucks going to and from on location shoots.

Yet another reason why the #1 should be properly expanded east to Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

Amazon copies Tsawwassen Mills in bid to attract employees from Surrey

Now hiring for its new fulfillment centre at the Tsawwassen First Nation, Amazon is taking a page from neighbouring Tsawwassen Mills and offering prospective employees a shuttle service from Surrey.

Amazon several weeks ago began the hiring process for 800 full-time, permanent jobs to help pick, pack and ship customer orders at the centre set to open later this year.

An American aerospace company studying sites for a new factory is talking with a city in British Columbia about a potential $622 million factory that would employ up to 10,000 workers.

The potential deal was outlined in a city of Abbotsford report prepared by economic development officials for a Sept. 17 meeting of the city's business innovation growth and attraction committee.

The report did not identify the interested company, but did state that during the past three months, the city's staff have been engaged with a "U.S. firm currently in their site selection" and also "considering Abbotsford as a Canadian site for development for manufacturing plant."

"Depending on which of two options they choose, this opportunity could be $125 million investment and 7,000 new jobs or $830 million investment and 10,000+ new jobs," the report said, quoting figures in Canadian dollars. "Next round of engagement is due to occur in January 2020."..

I doubt even with an F35 deal that it would ramp up the Canadian participationi in the F35 program by that much.

I mean the article basically spells out who it is:

Several American aerospace manufacturers are known to be studying potential sites for manufacturing, including Boeing and Boom Supersonic.

The potential loss of a new Boeing jet assembly — possibly for its New Mid-market Airplane — plant to Canada would be a blow to Washington state.

Boom needs a long enough runway and access to supersonic test space so it might one reason they're in the running.

Crestwood Business Park in Richmond has a shuttle to the Bridgeport Canada Line station and to Richmond Centre Mall at lunch time.

Grammarly joins other U.S. tech firms opening Vancouver offices

What happened: Grammarly is opening its newest office in Vancouver

Why it matters: It’s among a number of American firms that have been entering the local market on the hunt for tech talent

American tech firm Grammarly Inc. is looking to put its prints on downtown Vancouver.

The company best known for developing a writing app that helps improve digital messages announced Thursday (September 12) the city would be home to its fourth global office.

Grammarly has secured a 3,000-square-foot site on Water Street in Gastown and is currently in the midst of hiring a dozen new workers to fill jobs in frontend and backend engineering, as well as customer service and social media.

The company is among a host of other U.S.-based tech firms that have launched offices in Vancouver in the past year.

Consumer electronics company Tile, Inc. revealed plans in May to hire 20 workers in Vancouver within two years.

The same week Tile announced its expansion plans, Seattle-based technology consulting firm Slalom LLC — employing 6,500 workers globally — announced it was also expanding to the city and hiring tech workers.

A month earlier, Seattle- and Palo Alto-based DataCloud International, Inc. — a mining tech and analytics company — said it was opening an office in Vancouver.

And San Francisco software firm Tigera Inc. kicked off the year in January announcing plans to open a local office.

Kinda sad to see this landmark sitting derelict now when I walked by. Will be interesting to see what the future has in store for this site.

I'm surprised it wouldn't be considered more lucrative for it to turn into residential but I don't know how expensive it'd be with potential contamination cleanup costs

The city has indicated that it will not change the zoning anytime soon
