Except this city is using maintenance as a back door to socially engineer things.

Projects like this aren't about replacing infrastructure with like for like. That would be easy and way to cost effective. They want to narrow driving lanes, widen sidewalks or add sigh bike infrastructure. This has a cascading impact on how these streets currently function and how these new alignments impact existing street furniture locations and landscaping.

The outcome is obvious. established business are effected by loosing street parking, customers avoiding them during the construction process, etc etc. The city wants to be able to say, "your concerns should have been brought forward during stakeholder engagement and open houses"

Proposed rezoning in Oliver for 30-storey residential tower

September 4, 2019

Edmontonians are invited to a drop-in engagement session to learn more about a proposed rezoning and lane closure at the northeast corner of 113 Street and 100 Avenue NW in the Oliver neighbourhood.

Date: Thursday, September 12
Time: 6 – 8 p.m.
Location: Grace Lutheran Church Gym, 9907 114 St NW

The proposed rezoning from High Rise Apartment Zone (RA9) and Direct Development Control Provision (DC1) to a Site Specific Development Control Provision (DC2) would allow for the development of a 30-storey residential tower with street-level commercial uses. An amendment to the Oliver Area Redevelopment Plan would be required to facilitate the rezoning.

The engagement session will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and share your views with the City and the applicant. Feedback will be summarized in a report to City Council for a future City Council Public Hearing.

Seems that ONE Properties' Residences at Clifton Place and Westrich's Grandin View are both under construction now.

The City Plan shares potential choices for a growing city
September 5, 2019

The City of Edmonton released an update on The City Plan that includes bold recommendations on how we will grow and develop to a city of two million people. The update, to be presented at Urban Planning Committee on September 17, will give City Council and Edmontonians an opportunity to see the recommendations and provide feedback.

Based on the vision and goals set out in ConnectEdmonton, our city’s strategic plan, The City Plan is the policy document that frames the kinds of choices our community will make to achieve those goals as we grow. Recommendations in The City Plan include focusing future development within existing communities, putting more emphasis on mass transit and cycling options, expanding our network of open spaces and prioritizing development in key areas of the city. Edmonton’s population will take decades to grow to two million people, but the decisions made today impact the next generations.

“Edmontonians told us what kind of future they want for our city, and the City Plan will give us a blueprint to follow as our city grows and develops,” said Kalen Anderson, Director of The City Plan. “Good planning is essential to building a strong city that’s prepared for anything an uncertain world brings—economic opportunities and challenges, environmental issues and changing technology.”

Work on developing The City Plan began in early 2018, and the project team has been collecting information through extensive public engagement, including asking children what they want Edmonton to be when they become adults. Supplemented by research papers, computer models, guidance from national and international experts and meetings with hundreds of local stakeholders, The City Plan had thousands of inputs feeding into the recommendations in this report.

Edmontonians will have more opportunities to give their feedback at public engagement sessions scheduled for late October. After hearing feedback on the recommendations from City Council and the public, The City Plan team will bring the full draft plan back to City Council for feedback in spring 2020. The City Plan will then be advanced for approval as a bylaw at public hearing later in the year.

When approved, The City Plan will represent the provincially-mandated Municipal Development Plan and Transportation Master Plan and will comprehensively replace the current policy documents created a decade ago.

The views there are surprisingly good at 17/30, let alone the 20s.

I reviewed the floor plans as well. A nice mix between high 400s-1330 or so, with most 600-900.

The lobby, rooftop amenity/patio, storage, and rentable suite/private dinning room is very tempting I must say....

I am very tempted.
