It's a fairly prominent building - being basically right at Portage and Main - from the most popular angle of the Winnipeg Skyline (viewed from the forks). I'm surprised so many people haven't noticed it before. It really is a stunner though to be sure.

But in my search I found a few dope skyline photos of Winnipeg, so enjoy!

I'm embarrassed I've not. And I usually pride myself on noticing details!

It's kind of hunkered down beside its taller newer brethren, but that's a weak excuse.

Interesting to me though is its location -- much of Winnipeg's stock of notable historical downtown buildings are north of that key intersection, is that correct? So was this a loner or were there many others nearby that didn't make it past the "urban renewal" era?

Sorry for the tangent from construction sites, everyone.

That entire south end of Main Street was lined with building like the Exchange District up to Union station, most were razed or lost to fire.

That's so unfortunate. But sadly typical of parts of many Canadian cities.

I'm not like the width of these recent Griffintown projects. They are getting too big for their own good. They still mainly have that Montreal identity. I can't say the same for all the others. Is it a sign of investors driving the market more than ever?

Wow, that's insane !

I think we have seen more construction in the last 5 years in Montreal than the 30 previous years combined. Is it a bubble that will explode soon or will it last and Montreal is just catching up on Toronto?

I don't think it's either. I don't think Montreal will ever catch up to Toronto, especially since Toronto is building 5x the amount of towers that Montreal is currently, not including the TO suburbs. However, it is certainly a much overdue and very welcomed boom with very little prospect of a bubble bursting. I read somewhere recently that out of all the major cities in the country, Montreal's ongoing boom is the least susceptible to a crash.

There's a sort of conservatory/indoor garden in the middle of the Calgary Zoo, not sure if that counts.

The quality of the Laval projects is quite good. Great improvement since the early 2000`s. #Clockzilla
