One random first time poster spreads an unconfirmed RUMOUR and suddenly the sky is falling, and now old man rrskylar is basking in his debbie downer mantra.

Gawd the schizophrenia mentality in our local threads can sure be depressing.

^ Ha, pretty much.

I can share with you the glazing for the tower is sitting patiently stockpiled in one of my warehouses way behind schedule. The steel has all been ordered as well.

The New CIBC tower in DT Toronto started at the same time and is now over 30 floors and already glazed in. The concrete core is easily twice as large as is the footprint. So yes, there have been lots of delays and perhaps a shortage of skilled trades to do this type of work in Winnipeg.

The steel should move very quickly now followed by the glazing... I hope...

I'm not worried.

The project, not the psychos around here.

Not true, Bentall V in Vancouver was originally 22 stories with 13 more stories added years later so it does happen, although it's very rare and i'm pretty sure the Bentall corporation went into construction with that plan all along so it seems pretty remarkable that Artis Reit would do this well into the project's construction

Some upper panels on 200 Portage have been removed, maybe they are going ahead with the reclad after all. Still seems odd Scotiabank matched their signs to the existing panels if that's the case.

Word is, if a certain amount of suites aren’t rented by such-and-such a date, it may no longer be the tallest building in Winnipeg. As I hear more I will post.
This doesn't make any sense, the building isn't even gonna be finished until 2021, there's no way they've even started leasing yet. You don't lease out apartments 2 years in advance.

Maybe WCS means weak interest in rental buildings.

By most accounts interest in rentals is the strongest its been after almost two decades of condo building and conversions, that market is over saturated. There's even government programs encouraging building rentals now as they're in high demand.

But they said:
"if a certain amount of suites aren’t rented by such-and-such a date" the building would be capped at 22 stories which suggests they want a certain number of tenants lined up already which has to be baloney. There's no way a rental building is redesigning mid-build based on how many suites they've leased 2 years ahead of time... based on the website they're not even doing any leasing yet, all you can do is sign up for an email list. No one starts signing tenants up 2 years in advance and even if they did the numbers would not mean much because no one who rents lines up their next place 2 years in advance. They're obviously not making a decision worth tens of millions based on "If at least ### people sign up for our email list by this date we'll keep building"

Does anyone notice that WCS made those comments and then disappears from the conversation? He's probably laughing his — off that he got so much mileage from his comments.

Im in the middle here, could't' really care whether its 40 or 20 floors. My question: Doesn't the size and numbers of elevators indicate anything? If they started out with 40 in mind wouldn't the shaft be overkill and a huge waste of money?
