Surrey Updates

Very exciting news. Keep reading stories online about the doom and gloom of the current condo market in Vancouver but Surrey still seems to be quite attractive for living and investment purposes.

If I recall correctly, wasn't there a proposal for those lots waaaay back in the day? I remember reading that the buildings would be pre-cast as modular units and then assembled in place.

I was never too sure if it would work, but the idea was cool enough that I remember it all these years later.

Surreys pretty big so there's really no shortage of places for them in the next two decades!

Probably a glitch - application description says consolidating 13 lots to 1 lot (there are 13 there already, without the one to the north).

Tbh, I'd rather have these towers develop than leave a sketchy area in where they might be drug addicts or gangs (I'm looking at you, Newton). The NIMBYs can go f*** themselves.

After 2 and a half decades of stagnation, Surrey is finally catching up with it's NoF neighbors, albeit mostly in the Whalley area.

What's wrong with someone expressing an observation or opinion in a message board? Surrey is developing fast and it is exciting to see so many updates about new developments in the city center.

I have to see all of these new buildings and structures in my life time in order for me to believe it.

When is the high speed train to Seattle be done ? I hope it happens in my life time too

Anyway happy to see some development on paper.

I hope they can develop the river side of the Surrey to be another tourist and nigh time attraction. Then big hotels and big money come quickly there. Make it like another White Rock or Gas Town.

Call me a pessimist, but I find the HSR to Vancouver from Portland nothing more than a pipe dream, considering the extra costs for dedicated tracks, high tickets prices that you're better off spent on a plane, and the rampant NIMBYism that will retort from said dedicated tracks. I just don't see it happening.

Considering that the majority of the population live in Newton, which is a suburban wasteland filled with industrial buildings, development in Newton will be a lot harder than Guildford or anything on Fraser Hwy. I'm referring to areas near KGB and Scott Rd south of 88th.

There's some development going on on near 64th in Cloverdale, though it's more sprawl than towers, in the form of duplexes.

Luckily it's not BC footing most of the bill - it's Washington and Oregon. Could go either way, but most of the ducks appear to be lined up right now.

Better this than spreading misinformation like how you said the Station Square restaurants would fail due to the wrong "demographics" of residents over there.

And FYI if you haven't noticed, with all the new developments coming in despite the current economic climate, Surrey City Centre IS booming! They are doing the right thing.
