An extremely welcome surprise happened in Calgary today, a crane base was erected on top of the new East Village Shopping Centre in the new downtown East Village. We've heard from reliable sources that the shorter of the two towers, a 27-storey apartment tower, is going ahead immediately. We thought we wouldn't see these towers go ahead for years, but looks like the gap between downtown and EV is about to start filling in.

They are demolishing the old downtown TD bank branch. It will be the new HQ for Effort Trust.

I was driving out of Quebec city last month so I drove through Ste-Foy. I was impressed with the amount of new developments. It`s Griffintown-ing for real.

And it`s about to get a 250m and 180m building, ffs.

New Hyatt Place Hotel currently under construction in Moncton. This is a photo of the rear of the building, but is a good perspective for placing the hotel in it's urban context.

Pretty impressive indeed. What I also like is the redevelopment of De l'Église street (including Le QG Sainte-Foy). It's adding a nice third dimension to the linear build on Laurier.

So I guess you still haven't made it to Rimouski this summer?

I'm still not sold on the design. It still has a very temporary feel. The materials don't look like they will stand the test of time. It looks like and temporary cirque du soleil build.

A good update of Kelowna.

Currently 6 towers U/C.

This time next year Kelowna is going to look a lot different.

Good update. One question.....Why the hell is there a fountain with Dolphins in Kelowna? It looks so out of place and cheap. It's like something you might find in an old dated wedding hall.

That fountain has been there for as long as I can remember.

I am not sure if they were built with public money or privately as part of the 3 tower hotel / resort / residential development that they sit at the base of (one of the towers is called "The Dolphins" so I am guessing the later).

Oddly enough they are somewhat popular for pictures among tourists. It reminds me as a very very very miniature version of how every Japanese tourist that goes to Singapore has to get a picture of the stupid lion fountain. I say that because I have seen them featured on every single Japanese tourist show that visits Singapore. (Like the steam clock in Vancouver.)

Massey Tower, I'm surprised they don't have to podium done yet. It's unlikely they will be able to have it as functioning retail until after the holidays at this rate.

Calgary just hit 30 tower cranes today, our first time at or above 30 cranes since 2015. A nice little milestone on the road to recovery. For reference, our criteria for what constitutes a tower crane is one that has a manned control cabin at the gantry (up top).
