Oakridge Phase 3 with the Community Centre and social housing.

They should at least put a wavey awning on the building's 41st Ave side.

The application for this phase includes the following:
◾a new 5-storey Civic Centre comprising:◾ a Fitness Centre, Library, Child Daycare Facility, 55+ Senior’s Centre, Youth Services Hub, Performance Space, Artist-in-Residence Studios, and associated ancillary Cultural/Recreational spaces

◾a new 22-storey tower containing 187 Social Housing Units;
◾three levels of underground parking with 208 stalls;
◾A portion of the future 9-acre Park;
◾A total Floor Space Ratio of 0.11 FSR.

I wish these would turn out half as green as the renders.

I will say this - the renders as impressive as they are, seem really dystopian. Something out of a Black Mirror set.

Yeah, renders have a nasty habit of editing out the half-dead plants and goose turds.

I don't get it, every Netflix series (come to think of it, almost every futuristic story in the last twelve years) has this aesthetic. Is it because it's a shiny rich people tower overlooking the not-as-rich suburbs?

Not so much the towers, as the general concept of a curated city with everything preordained, paths, greens, etc.

It has a weird feel to it - I'm specifically thinking of the move Extinction with Micheal Pena. Everyone lives in these soulless but "ideal" cities, designed with whatever purpose in mind, cold and dreary no matter how much greenery they have.

You combine it with the futuristic looking curves on the towers and all the green washing and it feels like its designed for some androids that will inhabit Earth one day.

I'm exaggerating, obviously, but it sets of alarm bells. For me at least.

Yeah, big disappointment to say the least.

You would think for the prices they sold these units they could afford to not value engineer.

Was excited for Vancouver to get its first true canopy roof...

How are such redesigns after selling units legal? If I were to buy into a project and then see such changes I would be pretty angry, even if it doesn’t affect my unit directly.

This is like ordering a red car with a spoiler and receiving a green car with a hood scoop.

That's not a defence. They are selling a project. It should be depicted as realistically as possible.

wow, that doesn't even look remotely the same. looks like an entirely different project. i like how the Canada-Line entrance was completely abandoned and left as-is.

just like i originally thought, they are trying to create a private ares for the people who bought. make it less inviting for outsiders. or at least that's what it looks like based on the walls along the streets.

More like a rain shelter - you can see stepping stones and stairs flanking the piece.

Though I do question the wisdom of planting trees on it...
