The Bow is girthy building by design. There are plenty of girthy towers posted almost everyday that are not by design. Regardless, It's an acceptable opinion. An opinion so stupid that it must be called as it is to prevent further stupidity is one that suggest The Bow is too big for a large commercial skyline and would be better in not only a shorter skyline but one that invented the residential point tower on podium model. A massive office building is not comparable to a stadium with "spires" that still reach up less than half The Bow's height.

May as well have said The Bow would look best in Orillia.

I don't think any Canadian skyline looks like shit, but I tend to notice all the imperfections every time I see a skyline. I keep seeing the huge gap in the Montreal skyline beween le 1000 and Tour de la Bourse and it kinda ruins if for me, I can't help but notice how Toronto's CBD is unbalanced with a very compact cluster of highrises/almost-supertalls that should have been more spread out, I only see the greenish glass condo towers in Vancouver's skyline... Calgary is actually the only Canadian skyline I find almost completely satisfying. It is perfectly balanced (even though the Bow changed that a little) and has a good number of distinctive commercial buildings and few of those horrible greenish condo buildings.

Victoria and BN will plug a big chunk of that hole in the Montreal skyline.

i agree! I've said this before but when they first released the details i thought they would standout in a dominating way and look awkward due to their sheer height, but im glad i was wrong, they enhance the skyline beautifully!

I think the Bow looks fine where it is, and can even afford to be fatter, like a massive silo in a prairie landscape.

Speaking of dick measuring, Vancouver has the most glass-bottomed condo pools in Canada lol

There's a relatively famous aerial photo of downtown Vancouver skyline from 1979 and I was curious to see if I could find a current photo from a similar perspective and then overlay them as best as I could using Photoshop's various stretching, skewing, and distortion tools. Here are the results.

What's impresses me about Calgary's skyline is not just how large it is relative to it's overall population...but also how large it is considering how much of the population is suburban. How much more impressive would it look if urban living became more favourable there like in the other larger cities? It would be shooting way over it's weight then.

The first pic Chad posted is all residential towers in the East Village. The second pic shows the west end which is also mostly residential. The last one shows Telus Sky which is half office half apartments. Calgary's core is getting a lot more populated. The majority of the highrises under construction here are condos or rentals, not offices.
