For over a year the sign has said they'll start in 2019 - so it isn't stalled again (yet).

I looked at the sign yesterday, and it said construction to begin Fall 2019. Fingers crossed.

Good grief I hope it can be ready for summer 2020 at least.

The yellow crane shown below is now gone.
Removed over the weekend?

Not sure why they think that location is the "foot" of denman

So they want short buildings to keep denman street feeling like a village, yet they propose a building that looks like something out of a suburban office park. Good job!

I'm not sure if that's a development proposal, or just another marketing exercise. The Shell gas station closed down a long time ago - and the site must have been empty for the best part of a decade. Wesgroup were trying to get interest in a single storey retail building for the past three of four years, but with no luck. I'm not sure if they've sold the site on, or changed the plans, but the addition of a couple of floors of office space there is an interesting move. Unless it was treated as a minor project, I've never noticed a Development Application, so I'm not sure whether that still needs to be obtained.

It says the ground floor is leased to a national pharmacy chain. Rexall since Shoppers is pretty established with stores in the area?

And the West End BIA said Wesgroup was advancing the 3 storey retail building (from September 2018)

Thanks. If there had been an application on the City's website I would have put it on the Changing City blog, so they may still be 'advancing' it to submission, (or it's being treated as not requiring local consultation, which would be surprising). Rexall seems likely, unless Shoppers wants to get out of that cramped and broken up Denman Mall space?

They just renovated from 9K to 15K square feet which is why I thought they would not be moving.

Yes, you're right, the new space is probably too small for them, but would probably be similar to the Rexall on Granville.

Maybe London Drugs wants to move out of their dingy Davie location?

It's only 6,140 sq ft, so it would seem to be too small for them.

LD will be there for a while yet. They get spaces that are minimum 20,000sf

LOL. What is this little glass box?

Nearby, they allow the 40+ storey Landmark Hotel tower, plus a few others deserving preservation, to be destroyed, and they lament low vacancy rates. The dumb decisions made by this City know no bounds.

WRT LD Davie ... and didn't they just build the apartment building with LD underground parking on the adjacent lot?

LD express could fit the space. Smaller stores with the basics. They want to open more locations, this one is in Calgary.

I've yet to hear that LD is interested in the model in Vancovuer proper. Wouldn't bank on it. They're more interested in rolling out their Fresh Street stores, at least around here. Has to do with the different companies they would out / leases, store coverage.

I wonder if LD Express could work in a smaller town like ours that doesn't quite have the population for a full size store.
