Exactly! When he said that I just started laughing. Anyone who sees my posts, is well aware how pro-preservation I am in 95% of cases. This one is one of those 5% unworthy cases... I love brick pre-war buildings, but the best ones that haven't been converted at this point are in the neighborhoods, not downtown. My heart hurts every day I'm driving around McKinley Park, Back of the Yards and other southwest side neighborhoods where we are letting these beauties crumble away. Those are the buildings we can point to your average person and go, "Look! That's our history dying, but we can turn it into something better and give it a new life if we don't ignore it!"

I'm glad to know you've got it all figured out, but you don't have to be an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 about it. This forum can get mean when there's a dissenting POV.

Advocating for 300 N Michigan was more of a thought experiment than anything else, because where to draw the line for preservation is gray not B&W. Some people vehemently want to preserve buildings like Lakeside Center, Thompson Center, others say tear that tired 🞵🞵🞵🞵 down.

I'm not being an 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. I genuinely go out of my way to not be mean to people here. If you interpreted me as being mean, I'm sorry, but that certainly wasn't my intention.

As a side note, the reason those two are debated at such great lengths is because of location, who built them(Helmut Jahn has a big fanclub), rarity in their type and size. Apples to oranges.

That property is actually owned by Office Depot, right? I feel like their financial problems (or God-forbid bankruptcy) should push them to a sale eventually. Their stock is down over 60% in just the last 4 months. Their market cap is just $740m. This location alone could represent a non-insignificant part of their market cap.

I wonder if a grocery store could work as the anchor of a tower there. I used to live in that pocket of RN and getting groceries wasn't the easiest task.

I like that line of thinking, and with how many more people will be moving there every year, it only makes sense. Hopefully Office Depot people understand the plot's value
