How about this: sometimes landmark buildings look out of place, and the place might take a little while to catch up.

The Bow looks fine where it is and is a classic.

This is a lot of nitpicking for absolutely nothing.

Which looks more out of place, the Bow or the Calgary Tower? Food for thought.

In Toronto - what would be the point? It would just be lost among the sea of towers. In Vancouver I think it would clash too much with the existing aesthetic. Calgary's skyline is defined by bold colours and weird shapes, by standing out, the Bow fits in.

The Bow would look good tucked into the CBD around Georgia, behind those two black towers with the white borders. There's a bit more glass there.
This is hard to admit, but I thought the same thing as him. When I read one and a half times taller I think 236+236+118 aka 236*2.5. The main reason for this is that if one times taller just meant 1 x 236m, then it wouldn't actually be "taller" so I assume it must mean one times the height would be added to the current. Therefore one and a half would be current plus half added to current.

Easier just to say 50% taller.

The Bow has grown on me over time, though I’ve always liked it, Calgary wouldn’t be the same without it now.

The Bow is a nice building. And to say it doesn`t fit in Calgary`s skyline is absurd. The Calgary skyline is defined by tall, bulky and modern corporate architecture. The Bow is completely fine where it is.

Honestly, that anti Bow rant was completely unnecessery and unprovoked.

Love how he had to thrown in the 'dreary prairie city" remark. Such an —.

Sheesh. Is this a kindergarten? Such conniptions over an aesthetic opinion. How about jawing on a soother for a while to calm down?

And Chadillaccc, it's unfortunate that the words "get help" have become an internet insult, because you seriously do need help if your reaction to an anonymous forum poster's expression of dislike of a building (or at least, where it's situated) is to fly off the handle in such a vitriolic and embarrassing way like that.

Making a criticism about something in Calgary is not an attack on your honour. You either need to grow up or grow a thicker skin.

Calgary is turning into another Vancouver in terms of a Hong Kong looking skyline with that greenish glass. Very Asian looking and out of place.

Wow, that's a lovely image of not only Winnipeg's skyline, but the great depth of the urban fabric that lies in the downtown area.

Sheesh! Why did all the people react negatively to my trolling comment meant to stir the pot...

Could you be a bigger troll right now?

Your comment went well beyond criticism of the building. Your rationale was that Calgary is unworthy of nice architecture. You also completely neglected Telus Sky across the street. Are you jealous since Torana only seems to get tall boxes?

As far as the Bow in Vancouver - it might work better as the core of the city is much larger than Calgary's. As an example, BC Place Stadium is a massive structure obviously, and with the masts is around 300' tall, and it is pretty well absorbed by the densely built up surroundings. That being said, I'm not sure I would a huge structure like that given its main feature... green glass. We have enough of that.
I’m confused. Are you saying the Bow’s main feature is green glass or Vancouver’s is? Because the Bow is blue and grey. Same goes for the comment at the bottom of the last page.

Again, you're an idiot. I've had a good 7 hours to reflect on my comment, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not only not embarrassed, I'm proud for finally saying that you, Rousseau, are a — idiot. You spew snobby, self-righteous bilge out your — on this forum every — day and no one ever calls you on it. So now you've got it. You made that comment specifically to attract the attention of Calgary forumers. You weren't just critiquing the tower, you insulted the entire city, and then made a handful of totally nonsensical claims about how it might look good in other cities. That's not just "expressing dislike of a building."

I didn't tell you to get help, I asked you to think for one moment before posting the vitriol that you constantly, incessantly spew here about any city you deem inferior (and any city that which you clearly know little/nothing about in a modern sense). I do get help, and proud that I'm strong enough to do so. That's why I offered you a clonazepam to help you cool down and think about the — constantly swirling around in your posts, to help you reflect and end that practice.

My skin is plenty thick, but when a — jabs a needle in and scrapes it around for no good reason, well a — is bound to react in kind. *blows kiss* Good luck on the learning how to not be a pompous — all the time thing.

So we’re clear I don’t think the Bow is beyond critique. I hate the windswept plaza that feels so dead except for the Plensa head and the fact that Encana’s so corporately fascist that you can’t even take pictures in the lobby without security guards telling you it’s not allowed. I also hate that there is no public access to the skygardens, the south block was a con to allow for extra parking and remains a gravel lot with a deck to this day, and that there is one panel of glass that has never had the mullion fixed in like 8 years. I also agree that with the reduced height it became quite fat looking from the north. The view from the airport in particular isn’t flattering, though part of that is due to it being in the river valley and appearing chopped off at the knees.

Those are all valid criticisms. To say that Calgary doesn’t deserve nice architecture is not.

Looks green to me. The close up shot with the white shades or whatever that is at the base of the tower is pretty telling of what tint the glass is.

In your second photo it’s dark blue. As for the lobby entrance it might be a clearer glass than the rest of the building. In person it looks more grey. It is not green. If you want green look at the TransCanada building to the right behind the Bow in this picture:
