I know for a fact Cal Worthington ate there one time in the late 1980s. Its historical significance is immeasurable.

Just read in the SBJ that the first round of permit applications for the 8-story Shorenstein project at 601 Capitol Mall have been filed (and returned by the city for corrections

)

Plan is to start construction this year, in the 4th quarter.

You know what? That’s a very good point.

We must know if Cal’s dog, Spot, patronized the restaurant or even the liquor store, which both used to inhabit the building. If so, that building is worthy of being on the National Register of Historic Places. I think an 18-24 month historic review is necessary to make that determination.

Can someone please clairify what projects are currently under development in the heart of Sacramento. I was just driving through the city yesterday and saw two cranes aside from the Natural Resources building on the skyline, Natural Resources building I believe is looking to be around half way point in terms of height. I personally have ALWAYS loved Downtown Sacramento and am REALLY looking forward to seeing some new towers and some well planned developments built in the city.

The Sacramento Business Journal’s “Crane Watch” section outlines most, if not, all of the current construction projects happening in the central city. They also have articles dedicated to the various “neighborhoods” in the central city (downtown, midtown, etc.); and they break down almost every project and provide information on their status.

Actually... my critique is of libertarianism, not capitalism. The size and scope of government and its role in society is where the disagreement is, not about ensuring everyone's shoes are made by a state agency.

It’s been about 2 weeks now and the height remains on the 11-12th floor. It seems they’ll add a few floors and stop for a few weeks before resuming steel construction. I suppose that’s part of their plan.

Just wanted to say thank you Novatone82 for that link. I was a little surprised that there was alot more buildings I was unaware of in the mix for Sac. Also, does anyone have any photo updates for Downtown? Last time I drove through I was unable to pull off the 5 and take some pics. Thank you! Looking forward to seeing how the new developments affect the skyline.

It looks like the Natural Resources building steel is just about the surpass it's older neighbors, loving seeing a new tall building go up in downtown

No, their goal is never-ending. They lost that round, but they'll keep punching to gain whatever ground they can. Just like football, it's a game of inches. They probably can't beat a billion-dollar company, but they can get traction against a million-dollar one. They can certainly force a regular family, who inherited just a couple of the myriad old bungalows in the central city, to give up and renovate, instead of tearing them down and building 3 or 4 times as many housing units. That family didn't have the cash or the time.

Time... another key to them winning. I don't know about you, but this recovery we've experienced over the past decade didn't do much for me. Yeah, it lined the pockets of a few and shot stock prices up beyond what's reasonable. However, all America did was spend and inflate our way out of an economic crisis that started because of too much spending and printing of money. All the Mods have to do delay things just enough... the market crash is inevitable.

Don't know if this is new info, but its new for me and may be for you.... Development firm Fulcrum has filed plans for land on West Sacramento's riverfront between Tower Bridge and the Ziggurat, with apartments, a hotel, restaurant and retail space. This "sketch view" looks east, across the river toward downtown Sacramento.
