All of downtown is a war zone.

Had a nice walk at lunch dodging construction workers and fencing.

Its those standing seams that really wreck it. The under side of the windows have a black cladding that I thought would actually work better.

Some info on the office to hotel conversion at the old Enbridge building

From Coolnet:
Project Details: Repurposing of the Enbridge Office Tower to convert it to 2 hotels, with a combined total of 315 rooms. This development will also include the addition of a health spa and hospitality space at the street level

Didn't realize it was going to be 2x hotels going into that space. No information on which brands may be signed on

Not really 'two' hotels, but rather a regular single night stay and a suites hotel for longer/monthly guests. The brand will be a Hyatt Place.

Very common these days. Two hotels into one building. I have stayed at so many hotels like that only in the last year alone:.

Jasper Ave is in a sad state.

In fact, I have emailed my council member and Donny about how un-kept this is and the city in general.

The street cleaning and grass cutting are atrocious. Not spraying for weeds in all neighborhoods has propagated new spices. When grass is cut once every month and not cut or trimmed correctly it looks like hell. I have had 3 phone calls returned to me regarding the grass cutting.

#1...Not enough resources. Yet all of our taxes went up this year again and our services are going down.

In my minds eye it has been on a huge downward slide for 5 years now.

Its like they don't care and have given up.

maybe people just don't have the same values as you? growing and maintaining kentucky blue grass is some stupid ass shit, we should be planting native grasses and plants. waste of time and resources.

sometimes i can't make up my mind between thinking there has to be a very large city pool taking bets on the date the last street tree on jasper dies or whether there is a series of smaller pools wagering on the date the last street tree in each individual block of jasper dies.

and making matters worse in either case, i sometimes think that there must be an actual program in place to accelerate their demise.

100% agree. I've sent many emails to the city this summer with regards to how bad Jasper Ave looks and it's crumbling infrastructure. It's embarrassing

Plenty of resources - I see them walking around all the time when I am there. They even have BMX bikes to get them from one location to another to work faster.

All around town things look terrible.

This city has to stop building stuff and not looking after it. It's the worst way to manage any asset. Even the newly reconstructed part of Jasper is starting to look banged up and run down. As soon as you get to the un-rebuilt part it looks horrible.

It really is the Edmonton way it seems. Everyone wants a brand new bauble and as soon as they get it they forget about the old one, like a child throws aside an old toy as soon as they get a new one. It's not just the city that does it, private property owners in this city are just as complicit. I was in the Edmonton tower the other day and you can just see the lack of care and attention being paid to that brand new asset. If they can't be bothered to keep it clean, repair damage and keep the visible stuff in good condition what do you think is going on behind the scenes ? It's shameful really.

No, it's called doing your job and maintaining the city in a way that reflects the increasing tax dollars that are paid out by the citizens who live in it. The COE from the mayor on down are on the ropes. Lack of leadership and management is abhorrently apparent. I know Don is getting tired. And it certainly shows in (all) branches of this fair city. Imho

Welcome to the infrastructure deficit ALL major cities are dealing with - have you ever really looked at a bridge or overpass when passing by? You'll see evidence of excessive corrosion, chunks of concrete missing, exposed rebar, etc. Yes, even your beloved paradise in Vancouver has plenty examples.
