Stop your "Canadian interest" dog whistles. Only you have your best interest at heart. Well housed boomers don't have Millenials' best interest. Swanson doesn't have renter's best interest. We align our interest and cooperate through the mutually consenting agreements we sign.
The democratically elected government signed a bad deal. The developer could have been from anywhere. Believing that this deal would have been fine had the developer been born in Canada is whats truly naive

What a load of malarkey.
A company located halfway around the world doesn’t care what you think of them, especially when they had regimes like the B.C. Lieberals and Vision Vancouverwhose only questioning if developers was “have I bent over far enough for you?”
Local firms have a vested interest in maintaining goodwill in the cities and towns they are based in.
