I like "the faster, the better" as a slogan/principle. Don't love R1, etc., as the name. I guess 95, 96, etc., is no better, but there's no love in such a generic name. Maybe the corridor name would have been a better identifier? Lougheed Rapid Bus, Hastings Rapid Bus, etc.

I wonder what their internal numbers will be. 901, 902... etc.?

If they want a unified name for both directions, I'd prefer they just use the SkyTrain naming scheme and call them "Lougheed Line", "Marine Line", "Forty-First Line", "Hastings Line", "King George Line", which would complement the Expo Line, Millennium Line, and Canada Line, rather than applying a route number. (They will need a different name for Marine though)

I'll expect there are people who will be confused between 4 and R4, as well as 5 and R5... This is worse than the confusion between 28 and C28 that I mentioned here quite a lot of times, as these routes are right by each other.

R1, ... R5 will be the actual route number, similar to the N for NightBus, P for on-demand service, and formerly C for Shuttle.

Then again: the 99, 44, 84, and 503 will be in this weird category where they provide frequent express service but arent really a B-Line: I'm looking at 99 and 503 in particular.

Point is: 99 CANNOT Co-exist with Rapidbus. Either take back the RapidBus rebranding or rename the 99 B-Line to the R9

I think the rebranding is stupid too. It seems like the difference is a B-Line is a regularly spaced limited stop route while RapidBus is that with some variety of transit priority added (and Express just means limited stops, usually due to travelling on a highway).

So I can see why they're not bothering with the 99 and 503 as they're going to be replaced by Skytrain. Why bother doing the upgrades for a short period of time.

Again, I think it's stupid to drop the B-Line brand and waste resources rebranding things. 99 will keep its B-line name. 95 gets renamed again despite after switching from the 135 just 3 several years ago. smh...

I don't know if this has been discussed before (as it's news to me), but one interesting tidbit confirmed on the 41st Rapidbus section is when they convert the current 41 to local service it will be served by electric trolley buses instead of the diesel buses the 41 currently uses.

I guess Trolley buses aren't officially dead yet!

Why do people speculate that they are dead? Has Translink officially stopped ordering them?

It's simply a redistribution of resources once the 9 goes diesel for MLBE construction... Not sure why we're talking about propulsion when the main topic right now is B-Line rebranding.

The 9 is going diesel? Why are they stringing trolley wires down 12th then? I thought that was for the #9 detour?

Well they would have had to rename them to 9X-B lines when they switched the service over anyways. What is the great expense? The gold engraved 95-B emblems on all the seats?

For the record, we do have a dedicated thread for B-Lines, just like how we have dedicated bus lanes on Marine Drive (Northshore).

The 9 is will stay on Broadway, but the iirc, the 14/16/17 will move to 12ave.

All that was needed was a re-number, TBH. B1 B2 B3 B4 etc

I liked the B-Line name too - it was unique.

The RapidBus name is probably meant to be explanatory to tourists and those who do not understand the double entendre of the "B-Line" name.

Last week Sound Transit in Seattle celebrated 10 years of service of its Link LRT network.

In its first decade, the system saw 134 million boardings, and upon first pass that struck me as a decent number. Then something clicked and I realized that was cumulative, and by way of comparison the SkyTrain Expo-Millennium-Canada Lines cumulatively saw 159M in 2018 alone. Wow.

The route was fairly limited in the beginning, but their approved expansion plans are impressive and they will be catching up to Metro Vancouver on their current pace. Eventually of course...

Agreed. Slow start but then each expansion benefits from the network effect.

curious, does anyone know if these properties were used during Canada Line construction? i am kinda curious why they would be owned by TransLink as it seems unrelated to transit.

If memory serves me right, Translink is planning on building a transit yard on that plot of land. This new transit yard would house the diesel and hybrid buses that operates out of Vancouver transit center.

They stored pre-cast chunks of Canada line guideway if I recall.

Also used for filming a lot after the Canada Line was open.
