Hmm this sounds familiar...

Quote:
A large hedge on Cérès Street in Dollard-des-Ormeaux gives condo residents some privacy from the nearby train tracks and the Sunnybrooke train station.

The shrubbery blocks passengers on the train from seeing into their backyards — but residents worry that will no longer be the case once the station for the new REM light-rail system is built.

“The structure will be way above our hedge, so the REM will be even higher,” explains Josée Riopel, who lives in a condo just a few metres away from the station.

The light-rail station to be built at Sunnybrooke, replacing the existing commuter train station, will be elevated.

It’s one of eight stations along the REM network that will be above-ground level. Other elevated stations will be placed in Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, and Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

Residents say they are concerned for their privacy.

“It’s the pillars. It’s the view,” Riopel tells Global News. “It’s the people that will be able to see what we have in our plates when we have a barbecue.”

At the Pierrefonds-Roxboro station, trees now block the view of houses but the elevated station is expected to be above the greenery.

“With the height of the train, they’re basically going to be able to see into my kids’ bedrooms,” says Kristy Thornton-Filion, whose home is located close to the tracks.

96 or a BRT replacement, followed by a full SkyTrain line from Newton to Guildford in 2040-50. Why is that a controversy?

Looks like SkyTrain will only be extended to Fleetwood by 2025. Construction start in 2022

Well yeah, we've only got the $1.5 billion so far. There's a guaranteed $1.9 billion coming 5-10 years later, and that funds the rest of the extension and the BRT.

Don'tn't know why they're even bothering to compare BRT with the B-line. It's a no brainer that BRT is favoured.

Skytrain to Fleetwood and BRT to Langley should be fine.

Or, they have laid it out for "Please Re-elect me" Trudeau and John "Big Surplus" Horgan to slap down some cash in the next few months.

I'm fine either way. That said, Fleetwood-Langley Skytrain is ridiculous to do before Arbutus to UBC.

Interesting how all three options could be complete and running by 2025. I guess you just can't build much of anything in under 4 years.

If you use P3, it's actually possible. But too bad the reputation of P3 has been ruined with one fiasco (Ottawa O-Train) after another (Regina Bypass).

Did everyone notice that Alternative 3 is Skytrain to Langley and Skytrain to Newton, with B-Line to Guildford?
... and the ridership numbers are better than LRT on both legs of the "L-line".

And is cheaper too.

I guess having one-seat ride out of the city is much more attractive than having to change train at Surrey Central.

Will be interesting to see if the Mayors' Council gets any traction during the upcoming federal election in their push for additional federal dollars. Would be a great way to keep up the momentum that has come with the 10-Year Plan and keep adding new, high-quality transit in the region.

Likely one of many bus lines SOF that could be rerouted to provide better service in tandem with a new SkyTrain line. The 503 and 320 come to mind too, and I'm sure there are others that know additional lines and better ideas to upgrade transit SOF

Seems a bit short-sighted to me. Instead of 2/3 Expo trains running all the way to Langley and an intersecting N-G line, both with 1-2 minute frequency, SoF'd end up with a third Expo branch and 3-4 minute waits at rush hour beyond Surrey Central.... not to mention that much of the rezoning is near Guildford, not Newton.

50 bucks says they find the cash for the Fleetwood scenario for phase one.

Do you mean the Clayton scenario?
If so, I would agree.
It would put the last station on the doorstep of the Langleys, like Scott Road tation (still far from Surrey central) was the first phase of the Surrey extension.

Yes, that’s what I meant. Seems like the compromise they will come to.

I don't think they are seriously considering adding a 3rd branch to Newton. It will have negative impact to day-to-day operation. I think they are just throwing the idea out there for due diligence's sake or just playing politics.

I'm sure they would've thrown in a "Alternate 4" where the branch goes to Guildford if it weren't obvious that it would require the split to be located before Surrey Central.

Except that one of the big problem areas is the ALR between Fleetwood and Clayton. They're going to have to do a lot of pile driving to make it across the ALR and that's going to take time.

I thought the Skytrain to Newton comments were weird, esp as another extension of the Expo Line. The basic L Line route makes more sense as a separate line - not an extension.

The analysis has a price and the same in-service date (presumably including the special footings required and any timing issues).
They can build columns and footings simultaneously in different areas and then run the gantry over top.

Here's the explanation for the top of page 32 of the report - 104th does not have enough ridership for SkyTrain.
So 104th is destined for either B-Line, BRT or LRT.
Presumably LRT would only be part of the "L", if built and not a standalone line.
