That's what I thought last time I looked at the pics, but there is some change.

From Daemon's pics you can see the difference in one month.

Telus Sky Completion

Had a long chat with Telus Sky workers and questioned why it seems to be taking forever to finish the crown (upper levels). They indicated that there is a great deal of intricate work for the light/artwork show and that is the main reason for the delayed completion. They did say that 45 floors may be lit up during the Stampede but that remains to be seen. I got this info on July 3rd.

Telus Garden:

I mean the abomination that you speak of. Vancouver has some beautiful buildings ... but IMHO this is not one of them.

Thanks for that legit update!

Looking forward to seeing more floors being lit up for the Stampede!

It doesn't look like much, but it's also only been a month.

From Daemon's pics you can see the difference in one month. In the grand scheme of things it's not a lot of time.

How many floors were lit up when they did the test back in the spring? Was it around 30?

It would be cool if they had enough lights and customization so they could sell advertising, etc. It would be very effective as a political banner or to get out political messages.

Glad you're appreciating this ART installation. Glad city bylaws required them to do that. It's going to be beautiful.

Are you sure the City required them to do this?

I'm not against public art, especially when it's privately paid for. This light display will add a lot to the city. I wouldn't mind seeing more buildings with such displays.

Wrong as usual. The city requires new buildings to have some art, not a multimillion dollar light display.

The city requirement is a percentage of the construction, just like how the Bow has two Plensa pieces totaling several hundreds of thousands, one being on a monumental scale. The rule applies whether it is a government project or private project - it is the same bylaw that results in the art. Glad most people seem to like this one - and thanks to the city for ensuring this type of thing happens.

Not the specific implementation, but having art is an absolute requirement by the city - and there is a process to ensure it happens.

I agree with you regarding light displays, but I don't want them to be advertisements or marketing as was suggested earlier. That's a gray zone in my mind.

The biggest disappointment with lighting was the Bow.

It would be a waste of money. If Nenshi does decide to run next election, he'll be turfed anyhow. He's popularity has plummeted big time. He's done either way.
