Well, they have no desire to move yet. MTO has no immediate plans to build this either.

Another question about ROW: How wide is the ROW of 11-17 through Oliver Paipoonage between Twin City and Kakabeka Falls? Anyone?

About 120 ft or 36m. It's not wide enough to be twinned properly. It could be four-laned, but adequate drainage might be challenging to achieve in some locations. This is why an entirely new right of way is being sought for the continuation of the Shabaqua highway. The ROW of the Thunder Bay Expressway is 300 feet, and the existing portion of the Shabaqua Highway is 200ft.

Meanwhile it’s almost summer but there’s no more news about twinning 17 west of Kenora.

Took a drive down Highway 17 from Nipigon to Terrace Bay two nights ago. Lots of blasting and construction going on as they add what looks like climbing and passing lanes. Lots of work though - It's going to be a little safer drive when it's all done.

Tried to take some pictures but the driving rain and reduced visibility made that impossible. Made for some fun hydroplaning for a bit, let me just say.

I love how improvement of TCH along Lake Superior Shore always proceeds quietly.

Which hills are the adding the passing lanes to?

Is it:
-westbound up Cavers Mountain (west of Plays Plat)?
-eastbound from Pays Plat?
-westbound from Rossport?

I knew they were adding at least one passing lane, but I wasn't sure exactly to which hill it was being added to.

Thanks

Or could it be the hills around Kama Bay?

Not west of Pays Plat... it was east of Pays Plat but as to whether it is the eastbound or westbound lanes... I couldn't tell. There is blasting going on either side, clearing of the brush on both sides. The rain was also horrendous so I was more focused on not accidentally veering into oncoming traffic.

There is also paving going on along 11/17 at the western entrance to the Nipigon strip, as well as the eastbound lanes of the twinned highway near Red Rock #9.

So, today I was driving home from work at around 6pm. I work in Espanola and live in Greater Sudbury.

The traffic heading west on 17 was horrendous. The light at 6 seems to be an issue as traffic was backing up east of McKerrow. In fact, there was heavy traffic all the way to the 4 lanes and the 4 lanes weren't light either.

I remember being told that last year when the 2 bridges over the Spanish River had lights due to being one lane for construction, getting from Sudbury to Espanola could take 3 hours on a weekend.
I believe it!

http://www.raqsa.mto.gov.on.ca/techpubs/TrafficVolumes.nsf/fa027808647879788525708a004b5df8/f51986ea499a13b08525745f006dd30b/$FILE/Provincial%20Highways%20Traffic%20Volumes%202016%20AADT%20Only.pdf

That area may only see less than 10,000 AADT, but that does not tell the real story.

Highway 69 doesn’t see AADT > 10K but we are twinning it anyway. Once Espanola becomes industrially important, the four lanes will be extended to 6 in the west and 69 in the east.

Right now, Highway 11 only has interchanges at Lakeshore Drive and at the end of the freeway. Once we add interchanges at Marshall Avenue and at the new Highway 17, will weaving be a serious concern?

Uhm...

I thought it was going to a separate exit. Marshall doesn't even line up with highway 17.

I thought the distance between Marshall Ave and Highway 17 New is less than a kilometre.

Go straight out to the highway. The distance is about 2 km.

Oh never mind. I was overthinking then. What about the distance between the new alignment of 17 and Lakeshore Drive then?

About 5.5km. The Marshall exit would be a good place for another exit.
