I love that theatre too; it's much better than it used to be but still feels nostalgic. The mall is pretty rough though.

Ok so I wasn't going crazy! Too be honest I didn't look at the time but I was briefly awoken confused and went back to bed. I live in the Olympia in Corktown. Whereabouts do you live to try and zero in maybe as to what and where?

I heard it. I thought it was a thunderclap. I have two residences, one in Williamsville NY the other at Bay 200 at Robinson for my teenaged sons, and I was there sleeping and it woke me up.

from time to time I have to travel to the wasteland. It's building up like Ancaster Meadowlands. I have to admit I like Cracker Barrel.

and Monster Truck is our GooGoo Dolls to Hamilton. They love them here almost second home town.

there's no reason why King and Main Street with the LRT shouldn't look like this. Oh I forgot about the set-back rule. Yonge and St. Clair. with LRT.

I would like to see a developer proposed a building then show how it gets dwindled down in height and density. That might sell the development more. About how anti-development and density the City is. #buildupnotout #PlacesToGrowAct

I can live with 30 floors limit in Hamilton, (height in meters unspecified, as long as it's 30 floors. Thorne ever heard of 4-5m floor lofts like Etobicoke South) anyway. If 30 floors is the deal then scrap the set-back. They do nothing for shadows. Look at this street sunlit in the middle of the day, it's beautiful.

The height restriction is so arbitrary it's ridiculous.

I know there's a million ways this could be done wrong, but does anyone else think it would be really cool to move the Hamilton light sign from cityhall to the top of Sam Lawrence park? It could be the signature to the Hamilton landscape. If we're going to forbide any development that reach's the height of the escarpment this would have an obstructed view of the sign. It would be nice to have something other then the steel mills for people to see as they drive in!

Since it's so quiet around here lately, thought I'd ask you guys what your vote for ugliest building in the lower city is?

I know Century21 is the obvious pick but Effort Square (especially the apartments) is the one that I'd tear down before anything else.

I have to vouch for Terminal Towers too. I can appreciate Century21 a bit, but TT is just a mess.

I disagree. I think they have some good modern elements and could be made quite nice with a recladding and podium renovation. It has a good urban feel IMO, only needs some updates. It's also a good vantage point for taking pictures of KiWi Condos and 154 Main East construction.

In March I actually went up to the third floor parking deck and took a couple photos:

As for the building I dislike the most, I was originally going to say the Fontainebleu. However on further thought, I think this one could probably be nice again with some exterior repairs done well.

My pick would be 200 James South. Irredeemably ugly, the proportions don't work and the materials simply don't look good.

Ellen Fairclough building, I'm hoping within my lifetime I'll see it get a modern re-cladding facelift.

I have to go with Jackson Square - that needs a whole rethink and somehow shed itself of its 70s origins. A rebuild of this one would IMHO be a game changer for downtown

To add to this City Centre is ugly as fuck, and kills James N south of York. They need to do like the Eaton centre in Toronto and open it up to the street. Bigger restaurants would be perfect in there even. The units on the street side are pretty small compared to the rest of the mall.

These two giant turds rank (pun intended) highly -- "Tower A" and "Tower B" apartments between Main and Jackson at Hess:

Plenty of small stuff in the city is worth mention (including the Arrival Inn just east of these be-yoots, in the foreground of that Google view) but in terms of prominent fugly uckers, I nominate both apartment buildings for a tie at #1.
