How is it this is the first time I'm noticing this? We don't often see a steel framed condo. Nice new tallest for you guys.

As I understand it because the tower is being constructed on a 50 year old foundation they were able to build higher with the lighter steal construction as opposed to a shorter heavier concrete building as the existing foundation can only support so much.

I feel like we don't see many steel buildings at all anymore, which is strange considering steel is probably the more environmentally friendly option, not to mention several other advantages.

It's biggest advantage is tensile strength and its biggest disadvantage is cost. Residential units have short spans between columns so the former isn't much of an advantage.

I was at Sask Jazz Festival last week and took a few pics, all within a few blocks of Broadway Bridge, of all the new construction sights.

Still have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming that Highpoint is a proposal in Saskatoon. We are slowly growing up.

411 Church is certainly one of the nicer new condos to go up in Toronto - I walk by fairly frequently and the details are very slick. Street level is pretty good too. The Stanley next door isn't quite as nice (particularly the podium), but still above average.

I value street level much more with respects to these projects...and I find both 411 Church and the tower next door don't do a great job of creating a unique or respectable experience for pedestrians. Glass walls are hardly excusable for an urban environment IMO, their really should be more thought placed in that design framework. Alas, I'm posing a rather moot argument. 411 Church will at least look alright...I'm not sure how anyone should feel on the Stanley project.
