There is the DAA emerging projects map: https://downtownaustin.com/economic-...ging-projects/

The 'dots' are also teardrops, but I think they used to be dots.

honestly concrete and brick walls decorated by graffiti artists is better and cheaper. can also be repurposed. this will look ugly as sin in less than 20 years.

great scam for the designers though!

Well considering that the art instillation over at Seaholm didn't turn out the way the renderings of it looked, I'm skeptical that this will actually look like it does in these renderings. I don't even think Seaholm's screen was actually finished, seems half-assed and incomplete. If they are going to put any effort in these things, the least they can do is do it right.

We are a big boy city. Please stop putting above ground sub-stations in the middle of the CBD. Jesus.

Like, this is the kind of crap we should have stopped doing in the 90s let alone in 2019. How much is the land worth that this garbage is sitting on.

See, I totally agree with this, but am a layman and have no idea if these kinds of substations can be pushed further to the periphery. I assume yes? But have no real clue.

So this is totally out of the blue. Towers has the scoop on a 30+ story tower going in over the Royal Arch Masonic Lodge on 7th and Lavaca . . . incidentally right across the street from Indeed Tower, which has a similar sort of re-use scheme going with Claudia Taylor-Johnson Hall.

Here's the backup file from today's HLC meeting. That one slipped by me - glad Towers was paying attention.

http://www.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=322381

I'll start a thread for it in the near future unless someone gets to it first.

I hope the fallout theater can find a new temporary home and they make room in the new tower to keep them where they are.

I doubt that will happen, but I enjoy them bringing some nightlife to that section of downtown.

Also, I hope that we can do more of this. Even doing this in the warehouse district could help keep some of the vibe that it has now. Facade preservation or building over existing buildings.

The AULCC files were updated Thursday. One of them included this project, but there are no elevations. It lists this project as a mixed use "highrise" but gives no other details.

There does appear to be another error with this submittal. Remember, that they also got the address wrong for the tree plan. The project detail lists the address as 316 West 12th Street, which is the "Westview" office project - this one:

400 West 14th Street would put it here:

This is from the data file:

Proposing a highrise building on the NWC of 14th Street and Guadalupe Street. The purpose of this initial submittal is to get utility map and info on existing utilities prior to proposed utility design.

Address:
400 W 14TH ST 1400-1411 GUADALUPE ST 400-417 W 14TH ST

The southern side of that block where that address is is zoned for DMU with a 120' height limit. But I guess they would be entitled to a density bonus to go quite a bit taller. The northern half of that block is zoned Central Business District. Zoning in that area seems so haphazard.

I've often wondered what parts of Austin will eventually be called "downtown", "uptown", and "midtown".

Downtown seems pretty simple, but not really. I would imagine that someone who lives/works at the Domain would call this area "downtown". I've always felt these terms were relative to where you dwell.

I've also heard the Anderson Lane area called Midtown in the past. Not sure where I got that. I never use uptown or midtown referencing Austin, but it will be cool to be the size city one day, that we all do.

If we're smart, we can work it out here now, define the areas, and start using the terms.......after all, someone came up with SoCo and it stuck.

Around Crestview station, you see a lot of "Midtown". So that tracks with ~Anderson area.

I generally associate midtown and uptown with increasing street numbers. Which is why uptown is South of downtown in MPLS.

Our numbers stop in the 50s I think?
