CNCP Telecommunications (Canadian National-Canadian Pacific Telecommunications) was an electrical telegraph operator and later as a telecom company. CNCP was created as a joint venture between the Canadian National Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1967, replacing the different networks used by the two railway companies (CN Telegraph interchanged traffic with the Postal Telegraph Cable Company in the US while CPR Telegraphs networked with Western Union). The two networks, former rivals, had been co-operating increasingly since the 1930s By 1980, CNCP was no longer a telegraph company and emerged as an early telecom company. A 40% stake was acquired by Rogers Communications in 1984 and CP acquired CN's stake. The network was dissolved in 1988 and Rogers renamed the company Unitel Communications Incorporated in 1989. The new company was later acquired by AT&T Canada, now known as Allstream (now part of Zayo Group). The telegram division was later acquired by iTelegram and renamed Telegrams Canada in 2002 and based in Toronto.

Pretty sure its a major switching center for the all stream fiber trunk line. there are all-stream trucks there usually, and you can see server racks in the windows.
If they own the building theres no real reason they have to move. Despite its obvious hindrance to development.

Would be nice to see weldon to go straight though to canada way, to improve the traffic grid here.

Like the guy said, it would be a major job to move everything, even though it would only be next door. But it would be great to open up more land. That would accommodate a bigger development and the city wants higher density, higher tax revenue. Extending Weldon to Canada would really make traffic flow better in the area. There's going to be a lot more vehicles in this part of town when the Junction property gets developed.

As someone whose father worked for CN in PEI and Moncton for 42 years, this makes me happy. I know how much he loves the railway and cannot wait to stop by with him to give this a read.

Wow. This is a mega musical production. I'm used to having to go to Toronto, London or NYC to see professional musicals.

I think this is a great idea, nothing against the small local productions but I'd love to see some of the larger musicals coming to Moncton so hopefully this succeeds and we see more coming.

Wow. Tickets cost more here than they do in Ottawa or Montreal for this show. Almost all Moncton seats are top priced at $140. The rest on the extreme sides are $115. Top price in Montreal is $65 and Ottawa $75.

Ticketmaster is showing a ton of seats "sold" but who knows if they really are or they're just holding back seats to make it look that way and prompt buyers to think it's urgent to purchase.

I imagine the Avenir Centre is a smaller venue than in either Montreal or Ottawa (Bell Centre seats 19,000 for example). This might explain the increased cost here.

Is this production entirely in French? Does anyone know? It didn't say anything about that on the Ticketmaster site.

Yes the show is 100% French.

Both the Montreal and Ottawa shows are in venues of approx 2000 seats, so looks its about the same as the setup in Moncton.

The higher cost is probably due to traveling all the stage setup (usually the major problem for bringing acts in the East Coast), plus giving that they only do 2 shows (compared to 4 for each Montreal and Ottawa), the cost cant be spread out (kinda like what Cirque du Soleil is doing).

There was a short-lived English version that played London's West end among other places.

There are versions in many other languages too.

Not that I expect most people here to know this but it is not a small local production.

It is one of the biggest French language musicals ever. It is our Phantom of the Opera or Cats.

It has sold millions of tickets around the world and people from Gatineau to Caraquet to Paris to Abidjan to Beirut can sing along with many of the songs.

Maybe the city is trying to sell naming rights to the plaza. Come skate at the Ian Fowler oval in Scotiabank (insert any corporate name) Plaza.
I agree Ian's name should cover the plaza, the oval is only used a few months of the year.

Actually the oval is used year round whenever an event is scheduled at the Avenir Centre.And I see people hanging around there even when there are no events.

Downtown Place? That doesn't even sound like proper English.

When it comes to naming things, I seriously question things sometimes...I still think that 'art' statue is ridiculous.
