Site prep is underway for this small apartment building on the south side of St. George Blvd., backing on Jones Lake.

This is where Centennial Shakers used to be..........

Not bad, hopefully they use high quality materials! I would have loved to see a similar style to the apartment up the road directly across from centennial park. They will have a beautiful view in the back of the building.

They are installing a multi-coloured LED lighting system under the subway today. I guess the other lighting they installed was only temporary. They are testing the blue lighting scheme as we speak.

Construction fencing is now up for this five storey infill mixed use apartment building on the SW corner of St. George Street & Weldon. There is also a construction trailer on site.

from Moncton PAC planning documents from last year.

Retail Talk & Share photo.

In addition to the ground floor retail/commercial space, there is also some enclosed parking available for residents. With the gabled roof, it will seem more like a six storey building...............

Looks like they are going with a brick and fibre cement siding.

This one is exciting for me. I live ~3 minutes walking distance from this location and the area can really use some love. Happy it's going forward.

Good news for sure. St George street needs it. Too bad Kinja Sushi had to close. I feel bad for the owners. They were like a mom&pop type of place which I always support above the big chain establishments.

With all the chatter on the Urban Junction thread, it could be interesting to see, if anything, is done by the Aquilini Investment Group in the downtown. Maybe a high end apartment tower?

That would be nice.

Ashford also has a couple of consolidated properties on Highfield that would make nifty apartment towers too........

I was hoping now that the corner of St. George and Weldon is being redeveloped that the owners (Killiam?? maybe ) of the corner of ST. George and Cameron would devlop something

You'd have to think they're paying attention to everything going on around them. Sitting on a prime piece of property that is extremely underdeveloped can't be their best return on investment. Looking at the projects on their web site, they're more than capable of creating something significant on this property.

They are beginning to excavate for the underground parking at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Do you think it'll cut down on collisions?

The one thing I noticed is it makes walking under the subway a little less like you are walking in a tunnel. I think they were trying to match the spectrum of daylight. It does make a huge difference for the walkers.

Walking on Main Street this AM I saw a man with a Crombie shirt on, working in front of 1234 Main. I asked him about the 1222 Main St. building. He told me that there were Crombie people in town last week doing an inspection on it. Apparently they are looking at 3 different options for developing the property.

Good to hear.

1222 Main doesn't have to be another office building (although vacancy rates are currently low). A residential or hotel conversion are certainly possible, as well as some form of mixed use structure. I personally would love to see an expansion onto the vacant lot next door, perhaps including the Telegraph Building if it gets demolished. The vacant lot would be ideal for a commercial development, especially including a sports bar (given the proximity to the Avenir Centre).

There are lots of possibilities........

So much potential on all of that property there. It would be great to see more than just 1222 refurbished by itself. That parking lot next to it could be used for underground and ground floor inside parking with building above. And the telegraph building being gone would open the area up even more. There are absolutely major possibilities in this area.

It would also be nice to see the Aquilini group do something with the under developed Crown Plaza block. Their web site shows that they are capable of building major and very beautiful projects.

Speaking of Crombie/Sobeys and development possibilities, I found this tweet from Halifax Retales last week to be interesting:

Source

If Sobeys is considering markets as small as Moncton for this initiative, the Main/Vaughan Harvey Sobeys/ANBL would be Moncton's prime candidate. (I also think there's an excellent opportunity for this sort of mixed use redevelopment at Sobeys Lansdowne in SJ and the Regent Street Sobeys in Freddy)

If you add in the Sobeys/ANBL property into the mix along with 1222/1234 Main and the land next to the Avenir Centre, it makes for a significant and potentially transformative development opportunity for that entire area.
