Good Day.

That is the Trinity development at Bayview/CityCentre.....
the deal that sank RendezVousLeBreton as far as the Sen's Melnyk was concerned.

It is basically under construction now, with the final resetting of water mains, storm sewers and sanitary sewers that were in the former railyard there.

BIG towers..... http://www.trinity-group.com/property/albert-preston/

I just discussed that with someone when we were talking about K-W’s ION. We agreed that trains always have the right of way unless there’s an active emergency vehicle.

Even then, the emergency vehicle needs to make sure the train will stop. Even if the driver/engineer sees the emergency vehicle, it may not be feasible for the train to stop in time to let the emergency vehicle pass. Steel wheels on steel rail make for much lower rolling resistance, but also mean much less traction than a similar sized vehicle (if such a thing even exists) with rubber wheels on pavement.

Thanks, I really haven't been paying attention to the minutiae of the Lebreton deal. These towers are really out of character for Ottawa, which I see as a positive, if done right.

So we should be getting some sort of update next week right? RTG is coming up on their deadline to provide a new plan

Yes, according to Jon Wiling (who is quoting John Manconi)

Meanwhile in Toronto:

Toronto Star: Error-riddled plans, thousands of design changes among problems alleged in Pioneer Village station lawsuits.

Certainly puts our issues and delays into perspective. Although, if there's litigation, and there very well could be, it will come later.

Hiring different companies to build individual stations seems to be a strange approach. I feel like having one builder would make the project move more organically and possibly save resources. Different architects for each station, as was done in Montreal, is more doable (though all stations of the Vaughn line have their own distinctive style; not sure if they had one architectural firm working on the project or several). Though one architect for all stations can result in a more coherent line/system.

Good Day.

Yep.... and it aids in incorporating the -art- aspect into the design of the station, rather than having stand-alone not-part-of-any-concept artwork just tossed at or into a station.
Definitely my preference.
An overall architecture across all stations does reduce costs - as was noted in the initial RFP contract proposal and award process - but it can lead to a certain blandness explained away as consistent recognizability.
So - a constant debate between the two factors.

Meh.

Any news? Lots of crickets around here.

I've been seeing some singles come and go from Bayview, but haven't paid much attention.

Looking forward to the new RTG date.

Good Day.

Yep.....oceans and acres and galaxies of crickets.

There is a definite paucity of news or announcements or information of ANY kind coming out of companies or officialdom. A SERIOUS lack.

Nothing on the -new- LRT , nothing on the -new- LRT expansion, nothing on the T-Line.
It's not so much that we have nothing to discuss, but that it has been well discussed, and we are now waiting for the ten-ton lead brick to fall.

I think that's why there is such activity over on the Gatineau threads......
at least there it has some leeway on speculation, anticipation, and fantasy dreaming for another year until Gatineau starts locking a few concepts down.

EnJoy ?

I was walking down Rideau street this morning. All the construction hoarding and fencing seems to have been removed. When will they reopen it to normal traffic?

As per here, it looks like shortly after line 1 opens, they will begin the rideau and william st renewal - so I imagine it its going to be some time before its fully re-opened.
