I'll ask my buddy who is working on their Lincoln Commons location. Last time I heard it wouldn't start until fall at earliest, he might actually be transferred directly to that project once Lincoln Commons is done.

Man. Have I been saying that forever. Does anyone know the ownership/lease terms of the CVS at Ogden and Chicago? And the adjacent bank? I'm hoping that the lease will be up for renewal in the next few years and that land will be too expensive to keep as surface parking.

The one slightly off center with the crane is Old Town Park II, I believe. It's pretty close to TO if it isn't already. Just to the left is the tower going up on North Ave. where the Fathers & Sons plaza used to be. Same story there, nearly TO'ed if not already.

Was this mentioned here? I don't recall seeing it.

I don't think I have seen a close up of that brick or glass before. Looks really sharp!

The property is owned by Baum, who also owns the Concentra building across the street next to St. John Cantius. The whole thing (including the US Bank) was developed as one single deal back in the late 90s to replace a large neighborhood bank (and parking lot) that went out of business. The whole thing is barely 20 years old.

I'm guessing the CVS lease is just too lucrative to develop as anything else... most landlords will bend over backwards for a national credit tenant like that.

Honestly, I'm struggling to think of any deals in/around the downtown area where a major chain drugstore was torn down and redeveloped. There's still single-story Walgreens in River North and the West Loop!

The best we can hope for at Chicago/Milwaukee is that CVS moves across Carpenter St into the brand-new retail space at Spoke. That store is becoming seriously dated and will need a major renovation soon, so CVS may decide a relocation is possible. CVS would have to sacrifice parking and a prime corner location, though, so they'd have to get a seriously good deal.

CNA Center (151 N Franklin) was built on the site of of an old dumpy single story walgreens.

and it's only a matter of time before the west loop walgreen's (and its GIGANTIC parking lot) on halsted is redeveloped into a highrise.

that's a massive site (~1.8 acres) just begging for more intense use.

If memory serves me correctly the property Joffrey Tower currently sits on what was a two story Walgreens after the Masonic Temple was torn down. This one was possibly the biggest crying shame of them all, especially on one of the loops premier intersections. Joffrey tower isn't great due to the glass glazing ordeal, but it is certainly better than the old Walgreens. What I wouldn't give however to see the Masonic Temple building still standing at that intersection.

Walked by the site today. After a few weeks of inactivity I can confirm they are moving dirt and CASE is in the ground.

Also via SSP, Kingsbury Plaza/"The Grand Kinsbury" in the background of this photo is 456 ft, so that provides an easy height benchmark. http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=41207

That and MoMo (Joffrey Tower) about a decade ago.
