They need to close this out tonight. I think it's all too possible for the Warriors to win 3 straight - can't give them any chance of that.

It was great seeing Rory McIlroy at the Canadian Open in Hamilton yesterday sporting a Raptors jersey after he won. The crowd loved it.

Raptors-mania is alive and well in Hamilton- jerseys/hats/flags are everywhere, and many instances of cars-honking after a win. Feels like we're in the middle of the World Cup.

I live next to the arena and have already accepted there's no point in trying to sleep if they win. The horns were going until 1:30 am after the win against the Bucks.

Lots of sick days across the city tomorrow if they pull it off.

Sheesh. Championships that are major, that people actually care about, that are causing visceral excitement, that will shut a whole city down instead of merely bring a few supporters to Nathan Phillips Square, etc.

Toronto FC is a fun team and all, but their championship win (only one, not a few) didn't produce anywhere near the euphoria that you're going to see tonight and over the next few days.

That's no disrespect on the CFL, MLS, AHL, etc. to say that they just aren't as big a deal here as the NHL, NBA, and MLB are.

Looks like a heavy rain shower is coming Toronto's way. We're in the thick of it right now to the west of the city. Don't know how many people out there are prepared for it, but thankfully they're calling for it to be over by this evening.

So big cities like Paris, Moscow and a host of others have never won anything "major"?

Dealing only with basketball, an NBA championship is akin to the World Cup of soccer. It is a big deal, and although I am a fierce defender of the CFL, I do agree that this game tonight is right up there in terms of sporting history, and can be considered in the same rarified echelons as the Stanley Cup, the World Series, the Superbowl and the World Cup.

This is a big deal.........

Or anywhere.

The NBA has the added bonus of being cooler than the NHL, etc. - even among white people, but especially so in a diverse city with lots of residents whose families never played hockey.

And it's the big North American cities competing - it's Toronto's peers. NHL would be just as cool (with a less diverse audience) but CFL and the like can't compare at all. Who in Toronto is excited to beat Edmonton on Roger's Television? It's just... not the same.

We beat Corner Brook all the time for our provincial hockey cup. There's never been a parade and celebration like we had this week when we beat Toledo and won the Kelly Cup. That's our level, that's where we should be competing - and to win there feels great. Raptors are TO's level. And after the disappointment of the Leafs, fingers crossed it happens!

I can still remember watching Vancouver celebrate, then riot. This will be something people alive today remember about Toronto forever, whichever way it goes.

That said, no one should think that I don't feel that an NBA Championship would be a big deal in sports terms.

Even if I find some people are going a bit overboard with what this represents.

Small time towns man, nothing like San Antonio, Jacksonville and Toronto.

Id say Champions League may be the equivalent...which I dont think either have.

Soccer or Euro World Cup may kinda work as well. So France is a champion. Undisputed in the world.

What does this have to do with anything? Are you suggesting that the MLS is equivalent to the French football league?

What is it with this trollish complaining about Toronto's big sports moment? People are giddy with excitement unlike at any other time since 1992, 1993 and 1967. Is this Presbyterian frowning at other people taking pleasure in something you disapprove of?

It's weird and a bit pathetic.

If you're really so concerned about people treating an NBA championship like a bigger deal than the MLS, why don't you go out to the streets of Toronto and explain to people why they shouldn't be more excited about tonight than when Toronto FC won? You could film all the chastened kids in Raptors gear deferring to your great wisdom and put it up on Youtube.

You could really set things to rights, given that this unholy preoccupation with the Raptors has you so upset. You could do that instead of, you know, trolling this thread with your idiotic opinions.
