I can see how you feel that way...but at least Modera Buckhead looks more today’s modern. One of my neighbors described this building as a renovated project in NYC, and they decided to add a few floor to ceiling windows with balconies.

Appreciate everyone’s opinions but they are just that. Some people like certain buildings; others do not. It is the combination of all the different architecture that make the city interesting whether individually liked or not.

I agree, I can get cynical at times, but lots of negativity on here sometimes..In fact I know of a city about 135 miles WSW of ATL that would kill for that building...

Exactly. I see this on the Chicago forum too. They can afford to be pickier in what they get, and GOOD for them(really). If my city(or even metro) got 1/10th the buildings Atlanta did, I would be extremely happy.

Oh yeah I completely believe 1/3 of midtown will be a parking deck once it’s built out. We will later regret wasting so much space for cars instead of people as we still lack population density and have low transit ridership. If we are lucky, we will stop building so much surface parking and parking decks along the new beltline trails... but I don’t see it happening in the near future. Atlanta needs a change in vision, which also requires an overhaul in leadership.

Parking doesn't affect density in Midtown. Zoning restrictions there are based on interior square footage, not height. If that tower didn't have parking, it would just be shorter.

Edit: My point alone is hat there’s freestanding parking decks and several parking podiums that are literally taking up space that could be used towards people instead of storing cars. Existing zoning/FAR be damned.

There is nothing else to focus on, because the FAR is the only thing that limits that space. Parking doesn't count against that, so regardless of what the FAR is, every lot would be developed with the same square footage whether there was parking or not.

Parking is only a factor in an area with height restrictions, like DC.

Really loving the feel of Juniper street these days, going to be one of the better streets in Midtown once they complete the streetscape and put in some MF on the west side between 5th & 6th...

With the new separated cycle track coming, if they could redevelop the parking decks between 8th & 10th it would make a huge difference. Parts of it will still feel like a much larger, urban city.

There is nothing wrong about debating the relative merits of different buildings, even developers for that matter-- As long as the critiques are respectful and thoughtful. To flesh out my thoughts about the Crow project-- Its bland and pretty inarticulate-- the parking is also (as has been noted) not very well integrated into the whole. Its OK at street level (of course that is mandated)--

We need, want and deserve good and great architecture and urban design in Atlanta-- Its something that we should all be advocating for. We are not a restless little city anymore, but becoming something more-- a large sophisticated place.

Exactly. I’ve no idea why some of us seem to boast on the idea that cities like Mobile, Alabama would love to have buildings we have here in Atlanta. The idea is to have Atlanta progressing in quality of life and design as a major urban metropolis.
