It is hectic because many many others are choosing not to avoid it. Urban centre malls are still attracting lots of people. Usually, the bigger it is, the more crowded it becomes.

New Rocky Point Ice Cream location in New West opened today. Was relatively busy for a Friday at 1 pm I thought.

The kids love the one in Port Moody so am excited to take them to the new location this weekend.

Re City Square Safeway space...

A co-worker has a friend who works in an office at City Square who said an Asian supermarket would be moving into the former Safeway location.
Apparently it is NOT PriceSmart.

PriceSmart is part of the Save-On family. They announced that five of the closed stores will reopen as FreshCo - not sure what's happening with the rest of them.

This has been the same rumour with Westminster Centre in New West (former Save-on, Buylow)

Wow...I walk by there quite often but had no idea that there is a Buy-Low there. I've been in the Starbuck, LD, McDonald's,etc. Will need to make a point to search it out, LOL.

Is the space big enough for a T&T?

There used to be a Buy-Low at Westminster Centre - it closed at the end of August after being there for 3 years.

Nice store in a beautiful heritage building. Only problem is the sketchiness of the area, with frequent break-&-enters, drug-shootups, ODs, vandalism, public disorderliness, pee/pot stenches. I wish our heritage district isn't like that. Montreal's heritage zone is a world away from what we have here. If the area can be cleaned up, it would attract lots of shoppers to frequent the neighbourhood, and not the occasional tourist wandering there, get spooked and turn around back to the relative safety of Water Street.

This is true.

Melbourne does this on an unreal level. Makes us look like a garbage heap in comparison.

it is changing though. Le Labo is there and they ain't cheap. A lot of trendy hip cafes and indie stores seem to be lasting which is surprising given its area.

It did improve around 10 years ago when the Woodwards reconstruction was completed, but since then, it hasn't, and with the Woodwards development getting older, it is in fact getting worse. It's definitely far from being up to the mark. and we should not be satisfied with the prior "improvement". I think there should be more street level enforcement to clean up the area, with zero tolerance on all kinds of crime, street disorderliness and drug use. Retailers need a safe neighbourhood in order to operate their businesses there long-term. Otherwise, there is always a change in the businesses there when retailers realize their constantly busted up windows are costing them too much in insurance money to run their stores properly.

Yeah, our Gastown neighbourhood is still pretty much a dump, although it has so much potential.

Nice, the old HSBC location, looks good. Didn't realize Lucky Brand Jeans had closed beside it.

Wow, that space is totally unrecognizable compared to its previous incarnation. Looks great.
