Excited to see this move forward! It should do wonders for the street life in that area.. Hoping they are still planning to build the apartment tower and hotel in this phase as well. Will be awesome to have not 1, but two, 3 tower developments happening simultaneously within a few blocks of each other.

Hilton has picked Old Fourth Ward for the first U.S. location of its new “micro-hotel” brand Motto.

The 125-key hotel will come to a planned $80 million mixed-use project along Boulevard, near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue, where there’s a cluster of bars and restaurants. It’s also a short walk to the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail.


The project is expected to break ground this summer, with the goal of opening the office space at the end of 2020 and the hotel in early 2021.

I'm surprised that lot is only going to have townhomes on it....was expecting multi-family. Unfortunately, this is how you get limited density in the city, especially since so much of it is single family homes that will never be upzoned.

This seems pretty appropriate for the area. It's not that big a lot. I wouldn't really be in a hurry to convert established single family neighborhoods to higher density, when there's so many areas intown areas like Memorial Drive, Boulevard, Beltline zones and West Midtown that are much more appropriate for higher density.

One are though I was even more disappointed in being townhouses though was that big block behind the Flatiron in EAV. That easily could have been higher density. Townhouses a half-block from the heart of the village is disappointing.

I find the lot to be appropriate for higher density than oversized townhomes. MFH & mixed use is fitting of Poncey Highland and would’ve helped support existing retail along North Highland, some of which has struggled with the introduction of the beltline as a newer commercial node.

I also agree that more residential around EAV would be great. That said, at least Poncey-Highland has frequent bus routes. EAV is on a bit of an island

There's a strong NIMBY contingency in EAV. Development / densification of any sort (speaking generally) is fought/disparaged.

I agree. Townhomes seem to be the dominant for sale housing type in the city at the moment. I wonder how many have been built in the last 10 years. If we are going to be a city of 1.2 million we are going to need a lot more multi-family and condos in places just like this.

Speaking of which, does anyone know the status of the project that was proposed adjacent to Piedmont Park?

A developer is moving forward with plans for the 1.25 acre lot that is bordered by Ponce, Penn, and Argonne. We saw renderings from Dezhu for this site a few pages back. This is a different plan.
