And I'm sure the sale price had nothing to do with location and everything to do with the house, right? It does have a slight lean, which is hip and cool these days...but it's original, and therefore retro.

the irony is that the story is often spun as he is being "forced out".......with $2.6m. Poor fella.

Yeah, that's the famous leaning house of Rainey Street. I'd be afraid of cranking up the stereo in that house for fear it might fall down on me.

So that's a REALLY small sliver of land if you've ever seen it in person. The only thing you could feasibly put on it is another restaurant/bar thingy. There's no way to go vertical, even if you wanted to.

Not sure how the hell you can make that little bit of land pay itself off at $2.6M.

The guy should just sell hot dogs and bottled water to drunk bar hoppers on the weekends from his tailgate or front yard.

Undercut the overpriced food trucks.

Easy money

Could make something The Avenue style on that lot, maybe 5-10 stories of condos

A developer would have to purchase the surrounding lots also and if everyone is overpricing the value, this guy's kids will be passing this piece of shit onto their kids, unless its condemed before then.

Or Nate Paul snaps it up and converts it into a "quirky" shared office space.

Is there a resource that can help me understand the "big picture" for Austin downtown? Maybe an outline of upcoming additions to the skyline in the next few years?

I remember seeing like that when casually browsing one of the threads here, but I can't seem to find it now.

Someone had a really great photoshop of downtown skyline by the mid 2020's. I forgot which user it was but I think the image made it into a couple of web articles too.

In a perfect world the frame would pull out by a 1/4 mile and we'd get all the Rainey construction in the shot, too.

ABJ read my mind, and did a little follow up on the development potential of the Last House On Rainey.

Turns out the lot has difficulties -- very small, holds a couple of heritage trees, and the building itself isn't worth saving. The only real way to build up is to bundle with nearby properties. But -- it's zoned CBD, so if it were part of a bigger footprint, the sky would literally be the limit.

At least one restaurateur quoted in the article thinks that making it work as a standalone Rainey-style bar would be tough at the existing pricetag.

On a lighter note (JK)...anyone know who went into Austin's wiki page and erased all of the data pertaining to the U/C buildings and approved/proposed buildings?

It's all gone!
