Hey, the provincial government is promoting recycling. News about the Team Gushue Highway is definitely their biggest recycling project for sure. Over the last decade, they've diverted terabytes of news of real progress out of the cyber landfill LOL

Exactly, and another thought I just had reading his tweet is; if a local Liberal gov. can't solve right of way issues with a Federal Liberal gov., who btw is co-funder of the project, then it is a gross example of ineptitude on someone's part! Where's Seamus on this???

Capital City Approves Veteran’s Square Reconfiguration



The Veteran’s Square reconfiguration in the Queens Road and Church hill area of the capital city will become permanent this year.

The Committee of the Whole provided an update on the permanent installation of the Veteran’s Square Reconfiguration this morning. It was approved by council yesterday.

The project was piloted back in the fall of 2017.

The city says the reconfiguration will be permanently installed this summer in conjunction with street rehabilitation work.

I don't find Indian Meal Line that bad for the most part. Route 237 between Port Union and the Bonavista Bay Highway is probably the worst road I've been on. Its awful.

What is the construction work going on at the roundabout in Paradise? Been hearing a lot of people complaining about it. Why are they doing construction on this, it was only "completed" a couple of years ago?

There’s a brand new roundabout going at the intersection of Topsail Road and McNamara Drive that’s just stated construction that I assume people are complaining about.

I saw a photo today and it was the one already constructed at Kenmount and Karwood.

I drove through it today and it looks to me as if they may be widening the lane coming out of the roundabout going east onto Kenmount. At the very least they are widening the shoulder of the road. Further back on MacNamara there's construction next to the Rec Centre. Water and sewer lines being replaced. Two construction zones on that stretch of road is backing up morning traffic. To be honest it's really not that bad, may be an extra 5 (maybe 10) mins on your commute.

Just to add to the mix, there's a right lane closure on Topsail Rd heading east (Octagon Pond area) by the new Paradise Plaza. Looks like they're prepping for sidewalks. That's potentially three construction sites to drive through on your morning commute. Paradise drivers should be used to this by now though.... LOL!

The Committee of the Whole recently passed a motion to abandon a concept for an east-end arterial discussed between 1998 and 2002. The concept is described in detail in the Decision/Direction Note attached to the Committee of the Whole agenda for May 15, 2019. The City of St. John's Act also includes the following:

Power to tunnel

110. (1) The council or the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation with the assent of the council shall have power to construct, repair and maintain a tunnel under, across or through the lands extending from Temperance Street to Quidi Vidi Lake in the city, not necessarily following a straight line but following the direction that may be considered expedient, and may lay, repair and maintain water and sewer pipes and mains, and for that purpose shall have power to enter upon, dig, break, excavate and trench the lands and shall upon entry acquire an easement for the tunnels, water and sewer pipes and mains under, across or through the lands.

(2) Where the tunnel, water and sewer pipes and mains can be constructed and laid without entering upon the surface of lands, it shall not be necessary for the council or the corporation to give a notice of its intention to enter upon the lands and compensation shall not be payable to the owners except for the actual damage caused to the surface of the land or to buildings on the land.

I seem to remember back in the day Pitts Memorial was getting under way, and Outer Ring was a just a concept, that someone proposed a bridge across the narrows, making a true ring road with Pitts and ORR; coming down Southside Hills, and jumping across near The Battery Hotel.

Not in my lifetime I'm afraid!

I remember seeing that image of the bridge across the narrows, way before I joined the forum. Yeah, I don't see it happening.
Instead of the bridge I've thought of a tunnel from Pitts (by the waste treatment facility) going under Signal Hill to meet up with East White Hills Rd.

Ditto for that though
