By the photos above, it seems to me like the thing we have been calling a skylight, is not a skylight. Looks completely closed in.

It's also really a bummer to me that this giant roof of 330 is going to have zero "green" on it. The city needs to start looking at mandating green roofs – this thing is massive.

I don't believe my biggest issue with the newer renders has been mentioned here.... As evidenced by the two renders on page 183 of this thread, now we are getting stuck with the same existing driveway / vehicular loading zone right in front of the Main Street entrance to the fitness centre. This is a glaring contrast to the initial render, which clearly depicts said asphalt loading zone being removed in favour of a nice elevated space for pedestrians. So the initial project looked extra cool and "big city" to me due to the proposed pedestrian space, but now it looks like the flow of the podium streetscaping will be once again interrupted to give priority to automobiles.

Honestly this building is kinda underwhelming for me and I'm not all that impressed.

That said, I do really dig that our city is getting a new (slightly) tallest building, and I'm always happy to see density and growth in the core. I guess it says great things about the general direction downtown is headed if I can whine about the podium of a new skyscraper.

^ I was always under the impression that the laneway was always going to remain in place. If you go back to page 1, the initial renderings show it there. Maybe they tried to downplay it, but I can't imagine that they would get rid of it considering that there aren't any practical alternatives.

Ah I see now; you're probably correct. I guess I was confused as the renders happen to show people walking in the laneway as opposed to showing automobiles there. As you said, it looks like the vehicular aspect was pretty downplayed initially. Thanks for the clarification.

Ya the driveway looks like its been the same the whole time to me. It looks better in the earlier renders (and will in reality) because there will be 2 or 3 entrances to the building off the driveway, and the renders show nicer paving, which hopefully happens.

Also, some of the concrete walls have been knocked down a bit, that ramp is going in, and they're using glass fences/railings, so it should help the aesthetics a lot. Still think they should remove the street-level planters and expand the sidewalk/shelter.

It would be nice if they got rid of the planters, I wonder whose responsibility that is, Artis or the City? It would me nice to see that area open up a bit.

Just make it so that the stairs extend along the length of the frontage. That would help if feel very open

It's desperately needed – that sidewalk is already too narrow and the bus stop is packed during the day, barely room to walk by... will probably get busier now too.

Earls was confirmed on here months ago. To my knowledge, they're keeping the land but looking for a developer, however it's likely 5+ years away before anything would happen (what I've been told). Def would be happy if my intel was wrong though.

The skylight has windows on the south side, like it did before. Not very big though, so we'll how well they work.

^ Might be a little darker, but it should still be OK. Let's not forget that there wasn't a ton of glass in the old iteration either, it was mostly just western exposure.

There is still a skylight planned.

As far as a green roof... it was planned/attempted, but eventually abandoned for budget sensitivity. I think.

It acts as an easy drop off point... especially for 360, since the entrance to 360 is being moved south along this driveway. Might sound underwhelming, but the current entrance without P+M pedestrian access (and cars constantly stopping on main) is problematic. Furthermore the acess to the pakade entrance is important. Also makes dropping off patrons at earls much easier.

All things considered, it would be ill-advised to pay money to remove a functional aspect of the existing condition.

Plus it will still have CRUs anyway.

Earls was confirmed at 300, but the news of its current land selling is different. Can anyone confirm this?

Earl's ain't no Segovia, but I don't mind it. Still, you hit the nail on the head: Hype. A proven and celebrated franchise moving to an even better location is a huge plus for the project.

I don't know how important a skylight is when the front will be mostly glass and the west side has three huge windows that will provide plenty of natural light.
