Well I wanna see goats in Halifax. We used to have cows grazing on the commons (admittedly this was before I was born) so they would be a smaller, more practical alternative.

Yeah, but there is actually much worse in barbaric cities, like their retarded zoos.
If you have respect for freedom, wildlife and living creatures, you should boycott motherfucking zoos.

Urban kids need no zoos to learn about wildlife. We have schools and all.

I still can remember what I experienced as a kid when I saw splendid panthers in their evil cages. It was a bit traumatizing, a pain.
Even more of that pain when large cats tend to seriously smell like horses, so when they're locked up, it's outright unbearable.

There in a grassy park area, not like they are running up and down 8th ave beside restaurant patios.

Lmao, exactly. It's ok, G.S. is another one of those guys on here that will denounce anything Calgary does, despite how awesome it is. In this case the environmentally conscious part just makes it that much better, which probably fuels his blind dislike further.

Also just learned that San Francisco has been doing it even longer. Except theirs is commercialized...

Being anti-goat and anti goat-grazing is weird. I mean I don't care either way, but why be against it on principle?

What does any of this have to do with those damn goats?

Uhh, like I only basically meant that innocent rural goat breeders were much better than your stupid urban zoos.
We all have zoos, and it hurts me...

So this would make the whole debate about goat breeding shorter.

Mais vous cher monsieur, vous avez vraiment besoin qu'on vous dise les choses évidentes très explicitement, n'est-ce pas ?

Ha, nah, I'm kidding you. I know you'd gotten it, actually.

lol... of course.. G.S MTL is the bad guy.. just because I defend my city, you do the same. The goats have nothing to do with Calgary, it is my personal opinion that I wouldn't want to see goats near the downtown core in Montréal.

Denouncing Calgary? you're one to talk Chad....just because I dislike certain things about Calgary, is my right.. the problem is, Calgarians tend to bash other major Canadian cities, Especially Montréal! When most of you have never visited. I am sorry, but The Bow is one damn ugly fat tank tower and that is my opinion ta ta!

I mean, I'm not sure about the zoos in Europe, but I know that in the Calgary Zoo and Vancouver Aquarium, almost all of the animals were injured in the wild (either by poachers or natural circumstances) and were rescued and have been deemed unsuitable for reintroduction into the wild due to certainty of death. Both institutions are globally recognized as having some of the best conservation measures in the world. I know Calgary is in the top 10 globally among zoos, while being the 2nd largest zoo and most-visited zoo in Canada, and I believe Vancouver Aquarium is considered the top aquarium in the world for conservation measures. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Calgary Zoo was honoured for the 40th year in a row last year by the Associations of Zoos and Aquariums : https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-new...nour-in-zoo-standards-and-sustainability

Another cool feature about the Calgary Zoo is that there's a ton of other unique biodiversity areas very closeby in the city like the Bow Habitat Station, Pearce Estate Park, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, St. Patrick’s Island Park (trout beach, bird watching grove, fly-fishing inlet), and the Inglewood Wildlands. All within a maximum of 2.5 km walk. Also the Telus Science Centre is a couple hundred meters from the main gates to the zoo.

^ These would not be literal zoos to entertain urban people in lack of wildlife.
These are rather called sanctuaries in English (I hope it doesn't turn any marketing term, though, lol).
It's not exactly the same concept.

They aim at educating people by allowing them to get in, but they're primarily environmentalists to save injured or endangered animals indeed.

There's a lot of this in Central and South America.

Such an advanced concept. A single machine that not only cuts the grass but also mulches it and processes it into high quality fertilizer with the whole operation powered with energy from the grass itself! Imagine a city having grass that literally powers its own maintenance! All while being quieter and more eco-friendly than archaic gas-powered mowers.

Well... unless they start screaming. And yes I've seen the videos of goats screaming.

Yeah man, imagine a heard of 200 goats screaming and running around. The things nightmares are made of! But yeah, definitely a fantastic and sensible innovation that all cities should adopt. Upon further investigation, the city also employs sheep herds to help. A large part of what both species help with is invasive weed removal in order to help native plants flourish.

Here's another pic of the sweet lil goats taking care of our beautiful city! Higher rez than the one I posted in the urban ecology discussion thread...

Up close in that last pic, you can definitely see why goats have a lot of satanic imagery associated with them. Thing looks like the spawn of the devil.

Seems like a sensible, low-impact maintenance program though.

I guess these would qualify as skyline shots of Moncton - both taken around Moncton city hall today.
