Beautiful shots! Still waiting for a different color palette to emerge on the skyline. Maybe this next decade....

I know I'm in the minority here but I love that consistent color palette...It's my vision of what a future technological civilization would look like. I just need more elevation and shape.

You're going to start to get that in spades as this new crop (Indeed Tower, Google Sail, the Republic) starts to come online.

There's so much glass, I feel like the palette is gradually becoming "sky" -- or whatever's reflected in the building.

I gotta say, in corvairkeith's pics the Independent is really looking good IMO. In the first pic, the crown has the white vertical elements popping, as they do in a rare set of angle/lighting situations, vs. the screen door look most of the time. And in the second, the "Jenga" effect stands out vs. hardly being noticeable from other angles. And in the final pic, the height stands out.

Auditorium Shores sure does look pretty there. If someone Photoshopped Julie Andrews into one of those skyline shots I wouldn't blame them one bit.

The first shot from the Pfluger bridge is killer and keeps getting better. There are at least two highrises I can think of that will have a future impact in that picture frame. I'm still amazed that none of those buildings were there 15 years ago.

I honestly would love to see some more brown and earth tones to echo the oldest modern skyscrapers extant in downtown Austin today. 100 and 111 Congress, One American, and even the Ashton are great examples. Something is needed at this point to give back some texture and keep Austin from being totally given over to Vancouverization. Interestingly enough, there's dialogue lately of getting away from glass facades finally, to both improve energy efficiency and stop killing birds, among other things.

They wouldn't necessarily have to do away with glass facades, they could just make the glass darker than the sky is or less reflective.

Great points all around

I'd be okay with the same color if the heights would differ (which I know they will). But yeah, my main mission here on out is lobbying for a traditionally designed brown/pink granite church top spire tower with clean lines that all travel together from bottom to top.

KXAN is removing their old analog antenna from their tv tower in West Austin. They're using a Sikorsky skycrane helicopter to do it. That's the same type of helicopter they used in 1986 to put the new statue atop the Capitol.

This is what I like about the North Shore building - it has brick going all the way up and the glass isn't typical reflective blue - it's less reflective and comes off as more brownish/blackish.

I hope we start bringing brick and stone to our towers like the ones from the 80's - maybe minus the pink glass

Oh, I'm just drooling over those before and after photos. I read the article, but I was most interested in those neat before and after. You can right click on each of them and open them in a new window which then allows you the option to save them.

That's a pretty picture, but what's up with the spider webby, zig zaggy string of wires??
There has GOT to be a better way.
