Kim-ga-nae (김가네, means Mr.Kim’s households) Kim/gim also means seaweed sheets in Korean. So probably not a chain type thing I am guessing its the family opening it or they will have lots of stuff wrapped in seaweed

Not sure how to properly post things like this, but this is from March regarding the magnetic hill zoos expansion. After reading it through it’s not that big of a story, but, it looks like the zoo and city want to do a feasibility study done by September 2019 and would like to begin construction in 2020.

The African Village will be built adjacent to the current lion and ostrich exhibit, and will serve as the entrance into the African Safari exhibit.

5 Container Restaurant Project

The new African themed restaurant will be located next to the playground and will feature a variety of culinary delights with a clear view of the playground on one side and an animal exhibit (species as yet to be determined) on the other.



There is no question that after this project is completed, The Magnetic Hill Zoo's status as the fourth best zoo in the country will be well deserved. Right now, the MHZ is kinda the "best of the rest" (after the Granby, metro Toronto and Calgary zoos). With this expansion, we will certainly be distancing ourselves from the rest of the pack.

With the Magic Mountain water park, and with the expanding amusement park adjacent to Magic Mountain, the Magnetic Hill area is going to become by far the best family tourism attraction in Atlantic Canada.

I Was in West Palm Beach in March and I went to a drive through Safari Park zoo. If this is what Moncton has planned it will be quite the attraction.

A mini version of this, yes. You will board an open air tour vehicle at the African Village and tour though the African Safari Exhibit and be able to have a close look at the (non lethal) free range African fauna - animals such as Watusi cattle and ostriches.

Moncton NW Construction Update:

1) - Heavy duty land preparation is underway for the new Moncton North YMCA. There's a lot of earth being moved. At present, the only way to see what's going on is to drive up Albion Street or Samson Street.
2) - Concurrently, it appears work has started on the extension of Twin Oaks Drive, which will eventually service the new YMCA and extend to the Ryan Street roundabout.
3) - there is a new building under construction in the MID West Industrial Park on the corner of DesBrisay & Cooke. I have no information as to who is going to occupy the building.

The old barn, long a fixture on the NE corner of the Ryan Street roundabout, came down yesterday.

The extension of Twin Oaks to the Ryan Street roundabout is suddenly become very real.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up FarmerTom, if the NorWest Motel has closed and the furniture is being moved out, then I assume demolition is soon to follow. I therefore presume that Emma Place will soon also be under construction.

So, this would appear to be the list of new (major) construction projects getting under way in greater Moncton in 2019:
1) - Tannery Place South
2) - Hilton Garden Inn
3) - Emma Place
4) - Moncton North YMCA
5) - Promenade Neuf
6) - New apt. building replacing the Eglise St. Louis de France Church on Pleasant Street.
7) - UNI Centre

Add this to ongoing work on several other major projects in the city (Hyatt Place, FiveFive Queen, new anglophone north end middle school, water treatment plant etc), and a whack of smaller projects, and this is going to be an exceptionally busy construction year in the city.

Apparently the apartment vacancy rate in greater Moncton is currently less than 3%, and with more than 2,000 people moving to the city every year, it's easy to see why the main driver of new construction activity in the city is new apartment buildings.........

They have already begun demolition of the Nor'West Motel. One wing is already down.

They aren't wasting any time clearing the way for Emma Place.

The population of Moncton has been growing steadily and continues to do so. People need places to live. Even with all the apartment buildings being constructed, vacancy rates continue to be low. The market is there.

Apparently the new Kensington apartment building under construction at the Fairways project in Riverview is already booked full, so they intend to do a quicker build-out of the 2nd building.

Driving home on the TCH last evening, I noticed a mini tower crane had popped up between the Gorge rd and Magnetic Hill exits.

It seems to be up around the apartment buildings near Hillside Baptist Church.

Another apartment building, I assume?

The Nor'West Motel is almost completely demolished now. They're working today despite the rain.

Since there was a special meeting of the PAC to handle the request for variance for Emma Place, and since the demolition of the motel occurred promptly afterwards, I'm assuming that the developer plans on starting construction almost immediately.

It will be a nice addition to the area. Great place to live for people who work in that part of the city.
