I might be in the minority, but I like it. It contrasts well with what's stacking up to be a bunch of generic shiny glass buildings with a shared identity, or worse, a splash of tacky color that that is nothing more than a token attempt at standing out.

I agree with your comments. Retail should have been a priority as it can be a real draw if there is the right retailer in the right space. In any event something will be built on the vacant lot next door and it will obscure or at the very least detract from the podium of Quest.

Falcon Towers continues rejuvenation trend on 104th Street

ANDREA COX, FOR THE EDMONTON JOURNAL
Updated: May 11, 2019

A former gravel parking lot on 104th Street on the south side of Jasper Avenue will soon be transformed into a distinctive Manhattan-style, twinned residential tower development.

Aptly named Falcon, the twin towers will rise 38 and 43 storeys above a two-storey podium level filled with retail and commercial offerings. The creative juice behind the project, Langham Developments, is also the force behind 104th Street’s swanky 15-year-long rejuvenation, spurred on by the infusion of four architecturally significant residential towers — Icon Tower I and II, and Fox I and II.

“We’ve done a lot of projects along 104th Street, so Falcon was a natural evolution. While the other projects were located on the busier, north side of Jasper Avenue, Falcon is located in the more quaint and quiet, south part of the street, which overlooks the river valley,” says Langham’s president and founder, Reza Mostashari.

The location, within walking distance of Rogers Place, the downtown night scene, the 104th Street farmers’ market and the Bay Enterprise Square LRT station, should create a buzz for those wanting a walkable downtown lifestyle.

Transformed into a distinctive Manhattan-style......Bahahahaha.

This rendering doesn't look bad with the dark (Stucco)! I guess.

That Falcon Towers article from the Journal was painful to read.
Some of the more cringe quotes:

"Manhattan-style, twinned residential tower development"

"spurred on by the infusion of four architecturally significant residential towers — Icon Tower I and II, and Fox I and II"

"Since then, the developer has made its mark in downtown Edmonton, starting with the glass and steel, 14-storey Omega"

"chi-chi double-height lobby"....."Jackie-O stylish"...... my God.

Ha, marketing is amazing.

Not a single reference to 10% or less curtain/window wall, white EIFS stucco and white vinyl punched windows as the marquee architectural signature of Langham!

Surprised to see no pictures of this have been posted yet. Last week the MacLaren’s historic Buena Vista Apartments facade was revealed. A pretty decent recreation but some aspects like its storefronts and parapet don't resemble the original design.

All photos mine

I couldn't believe it when I found out it was built in 2009. I've seen way too much of that — in Metro Vancouver in the 90s. The podium is even worse. It's like someone found the plans in a 15 year old file of buildings never built yet and asked the marketing team if they could work with it.

At least their prices are reasonable - 250k for a new condo isn't bad.
