Love the new Waterdale Bridge in Edmonton, it's quite impressive to drive across!

Here is a shot showing the buildings that surround a good portion of the Public Gardens in Halifax. This mini Central Park type of feel has really taken hold over the past few years. There's a 500 m row of mostly 10-20 storey buildings along the western side.

I took this yesterday, near Crothers Woods in the Don valley...this is a nice view of some of the new buildings in the skyline of downtown Toronto. You can see the core of the first Bay Park tower next to the curved face of the L Tower, left side;

Have I posted these before? If so let me know. They're just in my files and wasn't sure if I have....

Except for the horrible transmission lines.

Yes, just burying transmission lines will significantly improve the class/quality aspect of the core. Even in the grungier looking areas. It was a constant observation from Australian visitors we had.

I've had a similar experience. Those Australian are pretty obsessed with our overhead wiring. I've been with Germans, Italians, further east, etc. and seldom a peep. They weren't the types to hold back either.

I've explored parts of the city that have had their wires buried. Some more shady than others. I've explored areas where the wires have been buried and followed up with streetscaping and areas that have been streetscaped without the budget to bury the wires. I concluded the wires aren't a big impact. It's more the hodgepodge streetscaping in various states of disrepair or no streetscaping whatsoever that creates the impression.

They're more unsightly when you go out to the suburbs of the proper city, like Scarborough, or Yonge and Finch, where those hydro lines cross the city from east to west....it just makes an already unpleasing area (in terms of it's urbanity and well....general experience) a bit less comforting.

What's the primary driver of overhead wires again, is it Hydro One or something? Is there a thread where I can learn more about this?

That first one is simply beautiful. Almost perfection.
