I am concerned about the gutter drains pipes being open for both esthetics but also the very fact they will be a place for pigeons to hang around and create a mess. So they spent all this time to design this place and build it only to create this mess. I guess the company that installs anti-pigeon spikes definitely has job security...

I would much rather just have the water fall off the awnings than have it drain into all these freakin pipes.

I was just going to say the opposite!
- at least it's not a Telus Garden scenario where there's water dripping off every edge of the awning (defeating its purpose).

But... the big air gap between the awning and the building creates the same "rain inside the bus shelter" issue (same as snow inside Metrotown Station).

That kink in the bottom - it's on all of them.
Could it be to break the velocity of the falling water (or am I giving them too much credit)?

Maybe they'll hang banner or bunting on the pipes to make them look pretty

What about big chains for the water to run straight down from the edge of the awning every 20 or so feet, but hanging just high enough for someone to not climb up. I'm seeing these drain pipes becoming problematic for junkies trying to climb them on to the awnings to get inside. That or someone standing on that jog where it drains into the sidewalk for a selfie and damaging it.

A rain chain would be good at the Seymour & Georgia corner of the Telus Garden awning.

I was more worried about not enough velocity in the drain pipe and blockages from leaves or whatever.

Yes, finally. This space had for the longest time a sign in the window that said "opening spring 2018".

I didn't take any pics of that today but I stopped and observed several places on the sidewalk along the Kingsway side where there was intense accumulation of droppings, and they were under the new drain pipes.

I saw that as well! And then when I looked up I saw a lone pigeon perched up there staring at me with its beady eyes, as if it's up to no good.

I think the drain pipes should be painted intense red to highlight them.

I guess I am not surprised now. The count down to the infestation of pigeon begins. How long until they start putting the spikes in?

What I find surprising is that during the detailing of these buildings and train stations, nobody on the team ever chimes in and says "what about detailing pigeon suppression tech in the construction instead of waiting to see the final product with cheap plastic spikes zap-strapped on by a random pest control company"... The extra cost would be worth it to me if I had my design firm associated with the project. I wouldn't want poor detailing standards like that associated with my company.

Actually, that would have been cool and it might have fit right in with the overall craziness of the whole complex. But, no. They painted the drain pipe yellow to match the awning. I guess it's slightly less bad.

Dear God, what garbage. How long before some crackhead sits on the pipe and breaks it?

Oh good, they've put in better bird habitat - those channel brackets will allow excellent bird nests. Coming next week, lots and lots of bird spikes - will they be painted yellow too?

And this summer will be 2 years since the trees were installed on the roof. Maybe there will be a building manager now to make sure they make it through the summer with no more trees dying off due to lack of water.
