I see that Trinity has learned the art of Bait & Switch from Claridge. They didn't just scale back the height, they scaled back the quality and materials of the development at the last minute. This happens all too often in Ottawa. The revised height will bring the rooflines down to about the same level of the other 23-28 story buildings that have popped up lately along Rideau, which is creating a sort of uniform wall of cheap looking buildings. Ottawa deserves better than this.

Maybe it's a good thing LeBreton fell through. Trinity might not have the experience or vision for such a massive city changing project. 900 Albert will be the real test.

I would be livid! That would be the tallest, most prominent set of buildings in this city, and if they make it disappointing and bland.... There should be some bylaw that requires developers to not pull this sort of bait-and-switch with the designs.
I'd guess that Trinity finally came to realize that a Rideau & Chapel address just doesn't have the cachet to attract the deeper-pocketed buyers/renters that would justify the higher-priced build. So they are going cheaper to be able to price it for the expected clientele. I don't think this will be an issue with 900 Albert, which has cachet in abundance.

Will all the towers of the 900 Albert gonna be rentals? If so, they could cheapen the final product too.
While still vastly inferior to the original concept it certainly looks better than the last architectural sketches we saw.
When will Trinity ACTUALLY start building tall condos and apartments in Ottawa though? They have all these grand schemes and nothing ever materializes!
Noticed activity at this site on Friday but not the activity I was expecting. Behind the hoarding fronting Rideau Street is a substantial post demolition hole in the ground now being filled in.

Trinity cannot start to build anything until both parties sign off on any site plan control agreements. As far as I can tell from the dev apps site the city is waiting on Trinity, the status being agreement from owner pending.
