Well hopefully it'll create opportunity elsewhere for office space.

It's kind of funny that they dropped it because of traffic concerns but then they drop the new road that was proposed that would've helped with the traffic problems. Lol

The cinemas at Esplindade are closing down for good this weekend to make way for the new cinema at Park Royal

And the cinemas at Park & Tilford are gross now so I suspect that will be closing down soonish as well

Landmark might take another swing at one of these properties.

I'm hoping they demo that building on Esplanade and redevelop the site. That's the ugliest, dullest part of Lower Lonsdale right now that needs some re-invigoration.

the space is up for lease but I don't understand why someone would lease a cinema in 2019.

how hard would it be to re-purpose a building like this?

Cressey purchased a 50% stake in this property last year so there could be potential for redevelopment.

Capilano University announces new campus at The Shipyards
APRIL 3, 2019 BY PETER MEISZNER

Capilano University announced Tuesday they will open a new branch campus at The Shipyards in Lower Lonsdale in August 2019.

Capilano University will occupy the second floor of 125 Victory Ship Way, designed by DIALOG. The space features 15 ft. high ceilings and a 60 ft. long balcony.

All five of Capilano University’s faculties (Business & Professional Studies; Fine & Applied Arts; Arts & Sciences; Education, Health & Human Development; and Global & Community Studies) will be represented at the new branch campus.

The Continuing Studies & Executive Education programs will be fully relocated to the new branch campus to help make the evening and weekend courses more accessible to students from across the Lower Mainland.

“CapU Lonsdale represents an exceptional opportunity for us to broaden our outreach and community contributions, strengthen local connections and provide a strong selection of our programming in a central location on the North Shore,” said Paul Dangerfield, president of Capilano University.

Capilano University says the expansion to The Shipyards will also help free up capacity at the main campus on Purcell Way. Over 10,000 students are enrolled each year at CapU and the university offers 95 programs.

Park Royal considers adding more storeys to residential towers

Brent Richter / North Shore News
APRIL 24, 2019

An artist's rendering of how the former White Spot site at Park Royal will look when construction on two new residential towers is complete. Developer Larco has been “testing the waters” with conversations in the community to see if there is support for taller towers. graphic supplied

Park Royal may be looking to add storeys to its already approved towers at 752 Marine Dr.

The developer, Larco, has been “testing the waters” with conversations in the community to see if there is support for taller towers “in exchange for some kind of community benefit,” according to the District of West Vancouver.

But the district emphasized the plan is very much preliminary.

“The District has not received an application from Larco for anything related to this development. If an application were submitted in the future, staff would assess it in relation to current policy, which, in this case, is the Marine Drive corridor local area plan,” said Donna Powers, district spokeswoman.

The previous council approved the towers in a 4-3 vote in May 2018 following a two-night public hearing. Park Royal has been given the OK to build 203 rental units, 11 of which would be reserved for affordable housing, in 11- and 14-storey towers, a daycare facility and 29,000 square feet of commercial space.

Don't suppose we could just add Park Royal to the DNV and cut West Van out of the metro?

Well half of it is on reserve land so not part of West Van.

Unlike the proposal by the Squamish Nation under Burrard Bridge, the condo site at 752 Marine is mostly, if not completely, off-reserve, so they will have to play nice with the locals on this one.

Thanks for sharing! I used to live on 2nd and Chesterfield but I moved away years ago. I always remember looking at the eyesore of an empty lot. Awesome to see this development as an infill.
