^ This. But at least payday loan companies have location restrictions for new stores in Hamilton. I'm concerned that this one will be allowed to relocate in the neighbourhood. As I remember there is a cap of 15 stores in the city, and a separation rule. Existing were grandfathered in (i.e. allowed to stay in place).

Hopefully this one is not deemed to be an "existing but relocating" store.

Thank the laaawd.

Also that building beside it with the 3 "portholes" above the windows feels like a reno that was never fully finished - the parts feel like an exterior finish was pried off and the exposed finish underneath was never refinished.

Tile it. Not sure why that's never caught on here. We're probably too conservative.

We have had some buildings that were tiled - tiling sadly ages horribly and ends up looking really cheap. Well the big tiling they use on like pillars and storefronts does anyways. Mosaic tiling might look better.

The buildings have had their scaffolding covered with a green mesh for some time. Some materials (including what I think is a peice of the facade) are sitting there, too.

Really? Been to Portugal? That wasn't my experience.

It's one of the most fabulous things you could do to a building. We don't do fabulous here, however. We do beige.

One only has to bring up the imagery of the tiling done on the pillars of the kresgys and the building across the street from it that's being torn down to see examples of bad tiling.

And yeah that's why I said that small tiling, aka mosaic tiling, would probably do well - small tiling ends up great - but not giant square tiling. Mosaic tiling though? Sure, bring it on!

We do have a few examples of mosaic floor tiling left though in certain areas.

This first picture is from today:

And this one is from Saturday. I didn't post it then because I didn't believe it warranted it's own post, but with today's photo going up I may as well share:

First three pictures are from this afternoon. The Salvation Army is gone, and the Cash Money is open during construction:

This picture is from a couple days ago:

It always amazes me how LONG the buildings are inside.

Picture taken Tuesday. The old Salvation Army thrift store is totally gutted and you can even see into the second floor:

We could be facing any type of Armageddon, but it's good to know that Cash Money will always be there for us.

Cool. Dark and cavernous, though. That's the only problem with these buildings. Gonna need a serious lighting plan...

That looks really neat. Like a former industrial building interior, stripped down the way it is.
