Steel stud and cladding might be a maintenance issue down the road.
Decorative concrete can also be a maintenance issue (i.e. original facade of 488 University Ave. Toronto), but these columns are pretty beefy.

That dig on Burnaby Street next to the Milano is for a small in-fill boutique condo building. It's something like 3 or 4 storeys. There was a surface parking lot there until this dig began a couple months ago. There seems to be only intermittent work going on so far.

Yes.

Not a fan of a few of these podiums lately - The Independent on Main comes to mind, it feels like it wants to push you off into Broadway traffic.

Walked by there going to work this morning: actually loving it! More glass is being installed on the ground and second levels now, and they actually look good. It is rather imposing, but I love imposing structures!

Regarding the podium, I think it's perfectly fine. With Downtown towers generally so far apart, we need more tighter and urban streetscape to feel more of a big city.
