That's what I'm reading from his comments. Every day is a 'business as usual' simulation, and once they reach 6 consecutive days without any error it will qualify as a success.

I see it like the physical construction: nearing the end, things are getting cleaned up, but it looks like hell. You play whackamole for a few days, things start to streamline, and suddenly you're done and it's ready. The start of those times is hell though.

Meanwhile, this lines up with what I'm seeing from my vantage point overlooking Bayview station. Doubles running at very high frequency.

Was at Bayview last night and in a handful of minutes (less than 10) there were two doubles in one direction and two and a half in the other. (One was pulling in as I was leaving.)

The doors without a roof look severely misplaced. Why couldn't they have gone with a nice black metal gate? Value engineering?

Doubt it, other stations also have these doors without a roof. Just a funny design decision.

According to reports they can't get through a day without major faults. If that's true, that should be really, really concerning at this stage of the game.

I'm also in the Aerospace world... I think this is more like a new air traffic control system.

I mean the planes (trains) are certified and working... they are now putting the entire system through it's paces to work out the kinks... that is what validation and acceptance testing is all about.

Without more details on the nature of the issues, doesn't really seem out of the ordinary from an engineering point of view.

Again though. If you were building a new air traffic system, you wouldn't tolerate bugs this close to roll out. Imagine, for example, the roll out of RNAV out or ADSB couldn't get days without major failures weeks before launch.

I want to be optimistic. But reading those posts in Reddit was disappointing.

From my professional background (software/cloud) I don't really see much to panic about. Projects in my world always end up with LOTS of little things that require fixes in the final stages of QA.

Is anyone here actually from a rail or civil engineering background?

Well... given Aero is an order of magnitude more complex than this system, it's a bit of a stretch to compare ADSB (or any other Aviation component) issues to switch and/or signalling issues.

I'm actually glad to see what appears to be full blown system tests going on with what appears to be a day-to-day start of the 12 day test.

At this time I'm keeping my optimistic hat on... hopefully the next few days/weeks are the final turning point.
