Able Wholesale did this when they were on Higgins. Had a lot of WAY expired items too.

When did this location close down? Pre 1980?

Saw a billboard yesterday on Arlington for the FreshCo grand opening but didn’t get a good look at the date, I’ll try to check it out on the way home today.

To be honest I am not sure the date. All I can remember is the location went Loblaws > EconoMart> Dominion Lumber > McDiarmid Lumber > Peavy mart

I can't recall if there some other retailers in there between EconMart and Dominion Lumber

I wonder what all the people that have used the parking lot for a free park and ride site are going to do if and when the store opens up.

While it would be nice to see it open as something grocery related, I live two blocks away and am a little skeptical as there have been a number of coming soon story's to the location stories since the Safeway closed.

Last one I had heard was Munther Zeid of FoodFare was looking at moving in there.

Best one that I had heard just after the store closed was that the Provincial Govt was going to convert it to a group home.

I emailed the good folks at Freshco and received an email indicating that the Freshco at Jefferson and McPhillips is scheduled to open on Thursday, May 2nd.

Munther Zeid of FoodFare
Charges $7.29 for a regular bottle of Heinz ketchup that you can get for $4 less almost anywhere else. I would never shop there.

You also tend to pay way less at Food Fare for meat than at a place like Safeway. That's the way grocery stores are. Some places get you with higher costs on dry goods, some it's produce, some it's meat, etc.

The Foodfare (Burnell and Portage) also sells a lot of local stuff that you won't find at typical grocery stores. Gunns baked goods (especially the bagels), Blackpearl coffee, local dairy, etc..

And yes, the meat tends to be very reasonable.

The Foodfare at Maryland and Westminster doens't have as much local stuff, but that's starting to change.

O'rly?

I've been shopping there since beginning of the year. They sell Beatrice brand milk, just like 99% of other grocers.

If I want another brand, I can go to 7-Eleven and buy Dairyland.

Awaiting more competition when the 'mericans come.

From this weeks' (online) flyer, Our Compliments brand ketchup is $2.29 (750 ml), while Heinz BBQ sauce is $4.89 (475 ml).

FoodFare has rye bread for $1.25 for Natural brand when most places start at $1.99 (Safeway) for in-store.

Puff cookies are $3.49 also same price at Giant. I won't pay anymore than $2 if I know Dollarama sells it for that much.

Rexall sells colas for $3.49 for a 2 litre bottle when Superstore charges $0.97. Sobey's Safeway is $1.29 for 2 litres for Our Compliments brand.

I find places like Food Fare, Family Foods tend to be a bit on the cheaper side for fresh things and perishables, but packaged goods, sauces, things that sell on shelves – way more.

Family Foods is way better. Cook their own roast beef too.
