The following was the result of my email message to the Councillor.
How do we get them to recognize that the renderings and material specs used to gain a building permit are too easily switched out during the building process, by simple application/notification to the building department? Who's accountable for reviewing and accepting the switch?

Hi ***,
Thanks for getting in touch about the balconies at Claridge. This is not a trivial issue; developers need to be held accountable for the structures they are building in our cities to stand for decades to come.
I’ve reached out to the file lead on this project to discuss further. He is out of office until next week, but I’ll give you an update when I know more.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Hi Kevin,
We received the following email from a constituent about the quality of materials being used at 500 Preston, the Claridge Icon. The photos of the balconies he provided certainly don’t seem to match the conceptual illustrations provided in the plans. I have spoken to Doug James about this and he explained that the approved plans show a combination of clear and fritted glass for the balconies and that this might be an area of clear glass.
Can you send an inspector to investigate to ensure compliance with the approved site plan? If Claridge is using cheaper and less impressive materials than initially presented, this will not be the iconic building that was promised. The excessive height of this building will also make the downgraded materials more noticeable.
Thanks,
Catherine

Hi Councillor McKenney I have forwarded this to John Buck in building code for review. We are involved in the land development component, and usually are not involved with the building construction.
John can you please review and advise.
Thank you
Kevin Lamer.
