Genesis may just need to provide more info about tower #1's top rather than make any changes. I found this definition of a distinctive top in the Waterfront Overlay:

Quote:
(2) Except in the City Hall subdistrict, a distinctive building top is required
for a building that exceeds a height of 45 feet. Distinctive building tops include
cornices, steeped parapets, hipped roofs, mansard roofs, stepped terraces, and domes.

To the extent required to comply with the requirements of Chapter 13-1, Article
4 (Heliports and Helicopter Operations), a flat roof is permitted.

I wonder when that went into effect. Does anyone know? I think a few buildings must have predated that...*Cough*Four Seasons*Cough*

The distinctive roof issue has come up before - post #19 in Quincy thread. That project passed muster, and it doesn't seem unusually special on top.

Hmm a dome top as a possibility, that would be an interesting addition to our highrise skyline. Then again maybe just having the Capitol dome is good enough, would a highrise dome clash?

Thoughts???

I hope to never see a tower with a dome top. Look like a 50-story penis. No thanks.

They're not ALL penislike.

Here's 400 West Market in Louisville -- 35 stories + dome.

Although, a dome doesn't necessarily have to be a rounded off dome. See: Comerica Bank Tower in Dallas. Would love to have something like that (and equally tall) in Austin.

Queen City Square in Cincinnati, with its tiara top. It actually looks decent at night lit up.

I'd like to see something with these two where they complement each other. Maybe something similar to the way that the One & Two Liberty Place in Philadelphia do.

There's also 1600 Smith Street in Houston.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1600_Smith_Street

And then, of course, there was Lamar Financial Plaza proposed in Austin in the 80s.

And it doesn't have to be a dome. One of my favorites in Philadelphia is the Mellon Bank Center.

I like all this hope for a domed top or some type of crown. But based on what has always satisfied the waterfront overly requirement, a simple two level top seems to be good enough. Anything except a completely flat roof.

North Main Street in Winston Salem has had me scratching my head for over 20 years. I like it. But I don't. But I do. And so on.

I think one of my favorite domed buildings has to be the federal courthouse in St. Louis. The building has great proportions and the dome is really quite beautiful.

We have nice clean elevations for both towers. Tower 2 is another new tallest candidate. Elevations are on page 40, 48 and 49.

Tower #1 50-stories and 593'
Tower #2 60-stories and 704'

Tower #1

Tower #2

The link doesn't work for me. Just trying to get clearer images.

So, the taller tower is Phase 2? The released rendering sure looks like a 700'er. And I always thought the taller one was going to be developed in phase 1.

The City's websites for AULCC and pemits have been having some access issues this afternoon. Yes, the Phase II is the taller tower.

Seems one of these buildings should have a three dimensional five pointed star for a crown.
After all, this is the Capitol of the Lone a Star State. Make it translucent and lit from the interior.
