Well I saw the trains go by Hurdman station again and all of them were coupled trains. Does this mean the 12 days of consecutive testing has begun?

Not necessarily, but they're **exclusively** running doubles, timing is consistent and announcements/display boards are in-sync with trains, it would be a huge step forward and quite possibly an indication that the 12 days of testing is running now or starting soon.

On an unrelated note, why do the two non-accessible entrances at Parliament have handicap access power doors, marked with a blue wheelchair symbol no less. Seems like it will confuse people, who might not realize the accessible elevators are down/across the street.

What happened to this piece of art by Douglas Coupland? I haven't seen any photos of it being put in at Parliament Station.

In the case of the west entrance, it doubles as one of the four the main entrances to the SunLife Financial Centre.

Though I understand where you are coming from, it's not a bad thing that every entrance has accessible doors. Think of those who carry their bicycles or someone with their hands full or carrying a young child.

Of note, of the doors of Lyon's Podium entrance, the set on the left, closest to the elevators, has the accessible doors (or one accessible door) while the set on the right doesn't.

That's a problem with using that symbol for those doors. Not all who need assistance with opening doors are on wheelchairs, e.g. people with canes. You might not even be physically challenged, maybe you just have you hands full carrying stuff. There should be a adopted universal symbol for "helping hand".

They ran Coupled Trains only before... The only way we'll know if they started the 12 day testing is by observing a couple things (Remember the 12 days testing is supposed to simulate 12 days of regular LRT operation):

- Hour of first train in test and hour of last train in test (first train should be at 5AM and last at 1AM)
- Frequency paterns fluctuations. We should be able to weakness differences in frequency (Rush Hour/Off Peak/Night). Also frequency should match that of actual service operations (5min in rush hour; 7 to 8min during Off peak etc...)
- Of course all train should be coupled
- Other small details like ''Train is arriving'' announcement in sync etc...

One thing is certain these ''hooks'' makes the catenary and therefore the train tests impossible.
The hook you're seeing is a grounding cable to ensure the system is de-energized prior to work occurring near the OCS. Where you would traditionally lockout/tagout the energy source when working on machinery, it's difficult to ensure that you've done so properly with a complex distributed system like this. The hook is conductive and will ground/short out the system should the power get turned back on, ensuring worker safety in the vicinity of the OCS.

Other than someone (or people) on the forum mentioning this stub at Lyon Station a few times, I've never seen or heard anything of it. I'd like to think the City is capable of such foresight, but they've done little to demonstrate that, Trillium "upgrades" and Bayview's terrible layout being prime examples.
Good Day.

In front of the Delta hotel is part of the construction shaft for the entrance staircase and escalator from the Lyon street west entrance standalone podium.
It is in the street, and forms the east wall of the descent shaft, where the small 180 turn is, to descend furthur, back underneath the podium bldg to the concourse level.
Queen and O'Connor is similarly part of the construction works for entrance shafts, this from the Heritage bldg just to the northwest.

I too have seen many mentions of stubs having been built for future-proofing. I decline to believe in them for the simple reason of additional costs incurred at a time of cheaping out. Some knockout walls probably have been built for access to downtown office towers who could be expected to sign on to underground access at a future time, but only as cheaply as possible.
The only stub I know of for sure is the construction shaft from the parking lot opposite 240 Queen, and how much of it was back-filled in is an open question.

EnJoy!

Didn't think those stairs went that far, but looking at the Lyon walk-through now, it seems possible.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm most excited for Parliament station because of this mural + the colourful ceiling we've seen in recent photos.

A few weeks ago, someone pointed to the "bing-bong" noise at the end of all Ready4Rail videos as possibly being our warning chime before doors close and trains leave. I don't remember ever hearing it in train spotting videos or in real life. Has anyone else heard it?

I did hear a trolley bell, similar to the Trillium Line, at Tunney's earlier this month, which I thought was weird.

Anyway, here's the Ready4Rail bell (12 second mark).

And Montreal's renowned chime.

And Toronto's blah dings.

Vancouver's decent version.

I DID ! It's the same basic ''beep'' they use on other network using Citadis Trains... I was quite frankufuly disapointed ...

Here's an exemple :

This is interesting. The Montreal Metro's chime has just been around since 2010 and they had no warning before? And I've heard that the sound is inspired by the train motors? Is that true and how?

(Some of?) the MR 73's traction motors produce a distinct 3-tone sound which people found appealing, so they used it for the door chimes.

I don't mind the power doors, I just think it's confusing since they are marked as handicap doors. Someone unfamiliar with the station will be confused by being immediately confronted with stairs

Good Day. True.

Partially coincidence, partially design..... depends on which apocryphal story you want to go for.
As always, wikipedia has a good summary, which I can personally attest to :

I hadn't thought of the chime. Surely this is something that can be modified, in case people don't like it and mount a campaign to have something a bit more distinctive?

What had been selected as the preferred option at the 1:17 mark makes me cringe. Glad they decided to go with the current chime.

I always thought that was a recording. Weird to think that noise comes out of the train. So I guess they've always had that as an indication of the trains departure (is it just the MR73, or did the MR63 do that as well?)

And also, do we now hear that noise twice now (recording and when the train (MR-73 at least) leaves)?
