Went down Garry yesterday and it was quite depressing. Seemed like it was turning a corner, but with The Pint closed for renos now, SkyCity office empty, Fame only open club hours, and now two of the larger buildings on that block are for sale (and presumably mostly empty) it's quite sad.

Hopefully the street/bike lane renewal project only takes this one year, and it attracts a new batch of people to that area. The SkyCity office has no sale/lease signs on it either which is odd – still tied up in court?

all day Saturday a large main floor window of 300 Main was removed and a tow truck looking crane had it backed in. pulling something out. safe? it took up a lane and even had police presence to ensure traffic was moving along safely

This has happened quite a few times already. Those windows have been gone for a few months, and I've seen a crane in there a few eventings. I'd imagine it has something to do with Scotiabank moving.. maybe bringing the safes up?

300 Main? That's the new tower going up. What's the address of the Scotia location that I think you are referring to?

As soon as there's enough room, and the scaffolding for the elevator core is high enough from the ground.

I'm sure it's imminent. Maybe one or two more storeys to go.

Asked some of the construction people in the concourse, they said steel should be on site in a week...

Sorry to disappoint, but those people are wrong.

A little birdie told me that there was a lot of things overlooked and not planned out for the tower, which is causing big delays for the steel contractor. June 1st is the date I heard.

Another spectacular Ray Wan design. Hopefully issues don’t arise like the stadium and the tower on Wellington.

His track record does seem a little spotty doesn't it? Smaller projects like the YFC centre at Main & Higgins and the United way offices on Main Street seemed to have been carried out with little (reported) trouble, but large-scale projects like the stadium and possibly now 300 Main seem to run into trouble.

^ Is it really in trouble, though? It's hard to imagine a project this big not having a hiccup or two, especially when you consider the fact that it is being built on a 40 year old foundation.

Wan has assembled quite the portfolio in town... somewhat quietly, he has become responsible for some of the highest profile buildings in the entire city.

Yes perhaps "trouble" is too strong a word for this project at this point, as I have no idea what things might have been "overlooked". I just want to see this project successfully completed, so it just raises a few alarm bells in my mind when the stadium had so many expensive things "overlooked" as well.

^ I suspect that as a publicly backed project for a sports team that operates on a fairly tight margin, the economics of the stadium project were way more strained than 300 Main. But that's a total guess on my part.
